I had similar issues, quite a few actually. I have managed to get mine on the road, but now i dont trust it. I have one last issue with "the engine", that being the weird idling issue, i just dont know what it is yet but I havent done much yet to fix as im waiting for some feedback from other members..(change of injectors for example..which I might just do anyway)

it does seem to me though that these cars are worth it, they are very good once everythings fixed, although I have to say my old Fourtrak was considerably more reliable!

Just a thought but would a problem with the fuel pump result in the problem with your water / coolant temperature rising very high? I wouldn't have thought that a problem with the fuel pump would make it overheat.

i guess it might if the timing is out on the pump :nenau

HI..

Funny you should say about the pump timing....the results back from the fuel pump reconditioners was that there were 3 internal faults one of which was something making the timing incorrect....we will see if it fixes it when its sent back to us...

can I ask, how much is it costing you for this pump work??

hi..the pump was £200 to fix at a specialist...it turned out that it wasnt a bosch pump....

also does anyone know about compresion on these 2.7tdi ,s....the garage say when turning it over by hand theres hardly any resistance like you should get with compresion...is this normal for these engines....theres no smoke at anytime and no mixing of oil and water etc..

The 2.7 has a CR of 22:1. So there should be loads of resistance when trying to turn the crank.

A compression tester should be showing 350-400psi.

ok thanks....will it make a difference if the injector pump isnt fitted...surely it shouldnt?

Ummm. I am trying to think if the inj pump sprocket is secured or able to float about when the pump is removed. i.e the cam timing is now not timed....??

If you have the same engine as Briggie then the pump sprocket is fitted to the pump on a tapered shaft with key and a nut, there is an access plate but I do not know if you can hold the sprocket in place while removing the pump, so it could be timing case off, Rick

Yes you can M8 as i had to do it on mine as i couldnt get enough by moving the pump :thumbs
Just be sure to mark it do 1 tooth at a time :thumbs

hi guys

thanks for the help....the recon pump is on the bench to be fitted...
whilst turning the engine over by hand (pump on bench still)theres no resistance felt as surely you should as it goes top dead centre..

?????

hi everyone..

the injection pump has been fixed and put back on....there is still no power after around 2000rpm,but it now picks up a bit after 3000...

we have found the diagnostic socket and plugged it in,nothing is coming up as a fault....

does anyone have any further ideas? temp semsor or ecu perhaps?

thanks

did you fit a new MAF sensor in the end, and/or try removing t to see what difference it made?

And silly things; I take it your fuel and air filters are good?

Sounds MAF related to me also. You'll need to be checking output voltage at the MAF under load, and preferably at the ECU really, to ensure there are no breaks in the wiring...

no power

hi mate if your rev counter is going up but no speed i,d suspect your clutch, i,m having same problem.

You need to check the compressions, you said you turned it over by hand and felt no resistance, if you did it on the crank pulley nut with a spanner you should have felt compressions, to test remove the glow plugs and use a diesel compression tester, you should get around 400 psi on the starter with a good battery, and all cyls should be the same, Rick

HI..

would the compressions being down(if they are)cause lack of power over 2000rpm? it picks up again after 3000rpm a bit..

engine gets hotter at higher speed....
no power over 2000 rpm
cant climb hills hardly

idle excellent
smooth at any speed
no smoke of any colour at all at anytime
turbo blowing ok

items changed

complete exhaust
injector pump
fuel filter
oil
oil filter
maf sensor cleaned

no mil light warnings
no problems detected when plugged into computer tester....
