hi everyone,,can somebody please help !

i have maverick 1997 tdi 2.7 manual gearbox.

i have severe loss of power, feels like no power over approx 2000 rpm although the rev counter goes up higher as normal..

i can get to top speed on the motorway, although no acceleration to speak of...turbo dosent come in ,take it its not getting high enough in the rev range for it to work.

no faul light on and no smoke at all.....and i mean NO smoke....ever...
of any colour...just as if exhaust is blocked..

things ive done so far..

checked pump small gauze filter...found missing
checked air filter..found black as soot...changed
new fuel filter
new oil
checked turbo..ok
new exhaust fitted
maf sensor cleaned

anyone with any suggestions please as im at a loss..

thanks everyone
..

can you FEEL anything coming out of the exhaust? I assume you do as its new, but still, have a feel.

as for the MAF, if its clean, that should be ok but does your MIL light work, as in do you see it when the key is set to on? Next check I would do is on the intercooler, driver side of engine bay, there is the intercooler inlet, check that this is adjusted properly, and is in fact opening/closing.

check the EGR, although NO smoke suggests no problems, but still, worth checking.

MAF is you best bet..

by the air filter theres some wires comeing off om teh left hand side, unplug, if no better then maf, you could try to clean it with some spray switch cleaner ot new one from ebay..

loss of power

ok thanks everyone...

my friend sais it could be in the injector pump....???? he thinks no smoke and no power due to lack of fuel..?

the only light i have staying on is the airbag one...

ill check what the mil light looks like and check it comes on with ignition..

thanks in advance

but if it was the pump at fault, the ECU would flag it up? smoke free engine isnt necessarily a sign of a problem, i do get smoke from mine, but were talking VERY little if anything, the odd puff here and there. id also check the peal, if its drive by wire, might be an issue there, perhaps give the micro switch a clean, take 2 mins.

ah ok...ill get him to check the pedal..thanks....i dont know if the mil light comes on with ignition as he,s got the car at present trying to work it out,but i know nothing comes on when driving..

another thing is the temperature rises the faster you go....

???

i would check the codes then, if you havent noticed the light, it either doesnt work, or you just havent noticed it (or there isnt an issue!) so check the codes, that will help, see downloads section, very easy.

I would think Timbo is probably right and MAF is not good. I wouldn't get anything done with the fuel pump until you are absolutely certain it has nothing to do with the MAF. As you mentioned the temperature continuing to rise I had a problem when water pump was leaking and temp guage would rise very high and there was a noticable loss of power. Are you sure you're not losing water? Is your water resevoir bottle full?

had same prob mate changed air flow meter sorted, got a new one if interested send me a pic and serial number of the one on your vehicle

Unplug the MAF and see if it drives exactly the same.... simples :D

when mine went b*ggered had no MIL lights or anything, I'm pretty sure the MIL light doesnt come on when I first turn the key either.. :nenau

Hi Parrasource,
I have virtually exactly the same issue on a 2.7 D Terrano 1998. Fitted new MAF, no difference. Been to two garages and no one has any idea so I would be very interested on what you find...! Interestingly I don't have any smoke of any kind coming out, always starts first time, even through the hard winter...!

hi wollfy id look for air leaks on the suction side of the fuel system

will not be dripping but when you need more fuel it will suck air in

thanks everyone,

ive passed your info on to the chap who has my car...

its not the fuel line sucking air as weve done a go round to test.

cant find any water leaking..

temp rises from half way to just above 3 quarters towards red when traveling over about 60mph...below that temp at middle..

HI.everyone..

further troubles trying to find the problem...

the mechanics cant find the diagnostic socket..is there one on every maverick,if so ,are they always next to the fuse box?

help please !!

panic ye not.

you have the same car as me. the diagnostics socket is to the right of the steering wheel, look down, see the pull off cover? yank it off, its in there, probably cable tied up so you cant see it, but i promise you its there!

get the downloads from here on how to check the codes, get a paper clip, so easy to do. only problem with using this method, is you are reliant on that MIL light working (a proper code reader will work fine though)

Ive been told by a bosch fuel pump specialist they think its the pump..especially as it has no smoke coming out..

HI clivvy..thanks...ill get him to look for it..which one is the mil light? thanks

on the far most left of the dash, lowest light, typical "engine check" type light. glows when key is in ignition along with the other check lights, goes out when engine starts...

hmm..thats not great news if its the pump, but i dont know enough to comment. It would be interesting to see if the bulb for your MIl light has been removed-thus covering this major fault with the pump? knowing these cars as I do, i'd be VERY surpised if the MIL light wasnt trying to illuminate to show fault...
