a few months ago i had a problem with starting the terrano and losing all power when driving.. problem was eventually sorted by nissan and turned out to be the fuel filter. this was replaced 2 months ago and the problems have started again,
could it be the a dirty or blocked fuel filter already?? or is it likely to be anything else??

thanks

Check and clean your MAF sensor. Have a look there are several threads on the MAF.

i replaced the maf a few months ago too, i know what its like when that goes, its certainly not the maf thats causing it.

Can you change the filter this time to save you money if it cured the problem last time, If the symptoms are the same that is.

Could you have put some dirty diesel in at some stage?.

Mav.

im going to order a new one anyway and fit it myself, had a look in the downloads section.
i was just quite surprised that the one that was fitted has only lasted 2 months. it was a genuine one from my nissan dealer as well.

There may have been air getting in to the filter, so check how much fuel is in the filter, it should be full when you remove it.
Also does yours have the mini-filter, have you checked this?

If you have used bio fuel since the last filter change, it causes the main filter to block as it clears the tank and pipes of crud.

it doesnt have a mini filter... as i discovered after spending half a day getting in to clean it!!!
havent used any fuel apart from diesel and i always run a cleaner thru it at the same time due to my last problem.
i'll change the fuel filter again and keep my fingers crossed.

any recommendations for the cheapest place to buy a fuel filter.

have had a look on the net but cant find that many, milners postage prices for it are ridiculous!!

terranos been runnin great but ive only been doing local running, had it on the motorway today and surprise surprise as soon as i sit at 60-70 for a few miles the problem kicks in.
no power, its like driving with the brakes on and i just keep losing more and more power till im crawling, pull into the hard shoulder, turn the engine off and problem clears for the next few miles. same again, turn off, turn on and its fine.
travelling at normal 40-50 mph speeds over a long distance - no probs!!

any ideas as im ready for flogging it?? but i cant coz i love it!!!

Try releasing the fuel cap and listen for any air that may be getting in.
Could be a blocked cap.

ive tried that, how obvious would it be if theres air getting in?
You would certainly hear it, I guess if you loose power, try releasing it or even loosen it, (as long as it isn't raining) and try again.
There could be air getting in via a corroded fuel line, plenty of post on this one.
Does seem like fuel starvation.
Sometimes the fuel filter seal at the top doesn't seal too well.
Is it a new filter? also have you drained the fuel filter?
Rustic

ive had 3 different fuel filters on since the problem began. i'll maybe have to look at the air intake etc.
totally lost confidence in the car.

thanks for the help

By the sounds of it try your fuel pump, might be on it's way out.
When you get up to a higher speed sounds like it's either starving or flooding it self.
Just another direction from the filters

Rag1873 Try this

Ive just bin talking to a manager at Nissan about a simular problem I have with my Trol.
We came up with this. The neutral positioning switch on the gearbox sends a signal to ECU. This maybe faulty. Which means, especially in a certain gear (mines 4th) it would tell ECU you dont need much fuel. So depriving pump/engine of enough fuel to do the job in hand.
Check with Nissan that you have a neutral positioning switch on your motor by giving them your chassis number. Not all motors have them but if yours has it maybe the answer.
Ive ordered mine. Bout £22.
Really hope this helps mate.

power loss

does the mil light on the dash come on when you start to lose power?
after a filter change, banjo filter hunt a couple of sensors changed i found out on mine that the injector pump was dying.this coupled with a blown oil seal on the turbo meant that light driving was fine but when revved hard or under load was causing fuel staration leading to a dead t2.have you had it plugged in and any faults found?my local garage did mine for £30 and both fault codes where a fuel delivery issue.shes in a resting state at the moment until i get the new injector pump fitted :(

thanks rossco, how easy is it to change the fuel pump?

willing to try anything now... getting desperate.

I took mine to a diesel specialist 2 days off the road to overhaul due to our diesel reducing the sulphur ? content, meant the seals were leaking.
Have you noticed any drips of diesel left under the vehicle after been parked up overnight ?

there was overnight dripping however nothing since i changed the fuel filter the last time.
what would the drips signify?
