Well its clear now all large cars made after march 2001 will have to pay £430 pa for their car tax... 8O

This may be the nail in the coffin for some of us!

Some people need large cars for their families, hobbies like caravaning etc which is so unfare to be hit with this money grabbing tax idea. I can see a large increase of sales to come in the secondhand car market of pre 2001 motors

we have covered this afew times see parkers guide they have an excellent tax cost calculator,

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=22591

but in addition, dont relax if you have an old car! the new mot emmisions/smoke testers are now being computr linked to DVLA, and a road tax based on tested emissions wont be far away, and just because yours passed with a clean bill of health last ime dont e complacent

the new emissons test isnt loking for the same thing! but ratehr co2 emmisions just lkiek newer cars have on their log books! give it another year and it will come!

Well when Diesel hits £1.50 a litre this summer which has been predicted we wont be able to afford to run even small cars so the whole country will calapse. Fuel, Tax and Insurance increasing like it is anyone would think the green party were in power, but the terrible truth is it doesn't matter who is in government things wont get any easier for any of us.

I'm assuming that the tourist areas will be hit this year as people wont be able to afford to go anywhere.

Right rant over with for a while.

Yip,unfortunately I'm in that new tax band by 3 months,I've set up an isa account and putting £15 a week in for a while, when it comes to next year,it should cover both cars!!

Sad state of affairs when you have to set up an ISA to run a car!

I'm not sure what to do, the problem is my car is in this catogary by 3 months as well, being a Y reg its only worth £5K any how, but now its almost worth less!

Who is going to buy a car that is 7 years old, and is going to cost you £430 a year to tax? no one!

On being stitched up...

Hi, I'm new... I have a Nissan Patrol GR SGX 4.2 diesel, it's 1993 so I think I'm safe from the highway robbers - oh, sorry, I meant the government - for the time being.

A green tax? What? When politicians live in great big houses which take loads of resources to build, repair, clean and heat? When politicians use massive cars for short journeys around London, where the public transport system is very good? When you can fly to Spain for 19 quid or something ridiculous?

It's quite simply a cynical device by which to refill the empty coffers, coffers which have been emptied by decades of inept governance and to call it green quite frankly makes a mockery of everyone who does their bit to reduce, reuse, recycle.

Farmers and country folk have big cars because they need them, they can't afford high taxes.

This makes me SO mad.

Me too Karin, I live in the countryside, I have this car as my wife is a child minder and we have kids and need 7 seats, I also have a job where I have to go to work, and in the floods and snow we had I was able to get to work.

I real mad about this issue, they are in my mind a bunch of total inept numpties...

i agree to i couldnt go about my usual lawful buisiness without 4x4, and think it an outrage, fuel is allready 60% tax so the more you use the more you pay, so we allready pay more tax! we are now being charged for the same thing twice!

This also discourages people from leaving their cars at home, as who is oing to pay all that atx and then not use the car?

older car? don't be too complaicent wait until next yer I confidently forsee the new laws for older cars and tax being introduce then, maybe a delay for an election but it wont be long in coming! The MOT computers are allready being updated and replaced!

......and then theyll wonder why so many cars are being driven without tax......i only use mine to do 10 miles a day some of it down nasty trax that havent been updated by the local council ,wot excuse will they have not fix it with all this money?and on top of that they want to charge £50 per annum to park outside my house, guess ill have to get something i dont feel safe in any more like a 206 god forbid.

and they know we cant afford to protest!

say we all drive to london and spend £100 of our cash to protest, and win with fuelk going down 2 p a litre, hurray

it would take a long time to make up your £100 and it will have gone up even more in the meantime.

it is a form of social control and nothing more, to make sure we are under the thumb ready to take anythng they thrown at us!

Karin
Id like to correct you about MP's living in a big houses, sorry but the ******* normaly have 2 big houses, and we probably pay for the one in London.

i must admit that these were the main reason getting rid of the mistral and just to let you know i am missing it like hell!!
now thinking of getting rid of the mrs runaround going back to one car and a motor bike

Thats what i have done, but I do not like being forced in to a bloody corner. My T2 is now worthless, no one wants to take it in PX, so i have no choice but to pay it!

prices will settle down, hang on until al the older cars are bing tax on there emissssions after the MOT system is upgraded.

Things will never be the same, but the panic will subside! At the moment people panic selling is making the prices carash and will inevitably knock a great deal of the older cars around out of the market equasion, .

its a case iwe dont need two cars as i am changing my job and could walk to work from home
so a motorbike seems to answer for the times i oversleep  or need to nip into town during the day etc

Funny you should say taxed on there emissions, because the Mitsubishi forum I used to be on they were well up on the tech side of SVO and they said on MOT emissions test there 4x4 were showing next to no emissions, so much so that one tester sent his equipment in for service thinking it wasnt working.

Tony

PS Just got rid of my bike Yam xvs 1100 to get the Mav
