looking to get a van, like a LDV convoy to make into a camper, can pick up a ex school bus for about £600, cheaper to insure than a Volvo too;) just need to sell the Hyundai!

look at transit countys too, 4x4s always fancied one as an anyway camper.

also toyed with a convoy and seeing if could graft on a range rover front axles
and transfer box. pretty sure some of early twin wheeler convoys had a rover
v8, police use.

mercedes sprinter also did a factory 4x4, mnd even without a live front axle
theres good ground clearance, the back end could gain a locker or even fiddle
brakes to help it get further off road.

Don't know about the convoys, but I had a Sherpa for years, it was very reliable and when it did need fixing it was cheep and easy!

aye problem is, transits are expensive, same with sprinters

the convoy is based on a sherpa i think, also the transit

When The Sherpa got too long in the tooth,I sold it and got a transit (Big Mistake) Had nothing but problems from the start and every time it went wrong it cost a fortune to fix eventually, the cam belt snapped and cost me 550 € to have fixed, then two months later the camshaft snapped! Scrapers! Should have got a Convoy.

yeah, we had a convoy as a school bus, was a good van, very noisy and unrefined but built like a tank, and i love the angry shout the ford engines give:naughty

love the sound of a ford/LDV diesel :naughty

sorry don't mean to throw a spanner in the works but wouldn't a van come under commercial insurance?

that's i difficult one, in theorie yes, but, im going to be taking most of the seats out ans using it as a 5 seater, if it has more than 7 seatet it'll be classed as a mini bus, so then that'll be commercial, but as i 5 seater, i do not think it would

i want a minibus as then i do not need to fit windows, also, i could sell the unused seats

Any van can be insured as car for domestic purposes used to have vans myself direct line covers them on car policy

that's intresting couple years back I had a combo allways had it on domestic policy. then when insurance came up again I was told by the insurance company that I would have to have commercial I said sod that so i tried a few other companies all said the same

hmmm, interesting, i cant find anyone, as i use confused.com, and they never even heard of a ldv convoy, aviva are a bunch of robbing b@stards i found, they are only group 16

My frend once bought a Trasit mini bus and took all the seats out except the front two as he was using it as a van.when he went to insure it they quoted a ridiculous sum because it was a 12 seater, when he told them he had taken all the seats out they Quoted more!
Because it was now a modified minibus!

if your making it into a camper then you get a special policy where its insured as a van and you get so long to make it into a camper (on logbook via DVLA check) it then ends the policy as a campervan, my dads in the process now. when your looking at vans there are a few other conciderations, it needs to be wide enough for you to lay down in (widthways) and also high enough to stand up in. if your fitting a skylight dont forget this will also lowwer your overall roff/cieling height. my personnal preference would be a mid or long transit with a superhigh roof. what happened to making toby into a camper?

That's why I thought of a LDV convoy minibus, they are wide and have a highroof, also roof fan :thumb2 I'm still useing Toby fir camping too :thumb2

Look up Ryan, just get some bloody quotes first before you get your hopes dashed  Any camper conversion is a pain for a mature driver to insure these days, let alone a young male :doh
Why don't you concentrate on getting some, any in fact, insurance on the Shoe car thing you have . THEN get on the car/van/camper insurance ladder :thumbs
Good luck :augie

I said before that it was a waste of time . You could simply have insured the T2 and been driving by now.
Hey ho :)
Now stop doing stuff to it and SELL . The more lights and speakers and gates you put on the roof will just suck up your time and money. To make money out of cars you need to be focused and JUST get on with the basics, and turn it round quick sharp.
That is all

Well, its my c**t of a dad that stuffed the insurance on that, Hense the reason I'm doing it myself now;) aye, I'm not modding the Hyundai, all I have done is roof rails, decent audio 'not OTT' and foglamps and the roof console, need to sell it now, those mids cost me about 16 as I had everything, apart from the rails, I'm saving for a van :naughty
