Cool! If you learn how to use it let me know?

I got one, but I am struggling to use it. Thinking of doing a night school course (Wiltshire somewhere).

Regards

Alan

I have had a look at this before, it's at Wiltshire College (Lackham?). They must be popular as they have been running them for a while now. The course covers a range of different welding disciplines, but I am mostly interested in MIG, and perhaps ARC welding. I am able to stick two pieces of metal together, but I think I would struggle to do car work and be tidy.

I could do with getting the basics 'down' i.e. welder set up, preparation and technique etc. Nonetheless, the course looks good. Link below...

I wouldn't have thought it still relevant, but around 25 years ago I did a welding course to try out other types of welding & it was at my local school.

I did a welding course in my local college and it was a bit rubbish. You did get the chance to practice different types (mig, arc, tig and gas), but the kits isn't the same as what you'll have yourself (their kit was thousands of pounds each) Can't help thinking the best way to learn is by doing. Certainly the teacher can give you tips, but unless you go back to your own garage (which I didn't) and practice, you won't get better.

Welding is a art in my eyes and can't be taught!

Yeah, the brown item on the right, looks like a laundry basket, it's used I believe to transfer clean or dirty laundry to or from a washing machine.

:lol:lol
I have a small mig, gas less with option for seperate gas, it has a couple of those aerosol type gas bottles lol.
Welded lawn mower chassis, exhaust bracket on side of Mav gearbox, few brackets a bodge job on daughter's exhaust, did some stick welding years ago... badly lol

Oh, how I miss my old workshop.....mig, arc, bench with 3 vices, welding platform......so much fun, so many fabrications/repairs....learnt by watching a real master, asking questions and just doing it.....fluff ups and all, until it all came right...:thumb2

I have been welding for years I was taught by fitters at previous employment and had done quite a lot of welding anyway, but I signed up for a part time qualification course at my local college and can't recommend it enough.
The lecturer was really good (although I think it had gone to his head a bit)
I was able to pass with a british standard qualification at the end.
I had to do a multi pass weld 215mm long with a start stop on the route run then two further runs for a cap. This is then tested in the lab.

Why don't you just get some scrap metal and have a play running some lines of weld.

you can learn the basics from youtube then it's just practice practice practice

Learning to mig weld with a good machine is easy.. Learning to weld with a cheapo crap machine will put your confidence down to zero and make you give up.. Learn to weld with a descent unit then you will adapt to crappy ones as you go.

Got to agree with these two :thumb2
