Patience all will be revealed, still writing it up, I am not a quick as I used to be, Rick

OK be patient there is a lot to it, this is a T2 front diff without the NS drive as it is all ready fitted to my off roader cos I broke it.

OS bearing off, as long as the existing shims are kept then there is no setting up required, and this fitting can only go in one way due to the bolt hole configuration

Split the two halves, 14 mm socket, they are tight, I used a 17 mm spanner on the crown wheel bolts to obtain leverage, no need to undo the crown wheel

OK so did all that before reading the instructions, just wanted to see how it all went together, now the interesting part, we have to check that the two axle gears are the same distance from the spider to a thou or two, problem is the spider is cast and not machined on the part we have to take the dimension and what's more it is different both side by about 3 thou but hard to be accurate as it is rough so I turned it over a few times and took an average, this is how it is measured

I stopped taking pics at this point as the manual says the two sides must be within a thou or two of each other, that was not a problem, the next item is that the two cam gears must have a dimension of between 145 and 165 thou mine is 131 now the only way to alter this is to change the thrust washers! I thought will give it a try, as is but no way on a bench test I could not get it to disengage as clearance not enough, so come to a stop, I need to source two thrust washers 18 to 28 thou thick or find a way of reducing my 35 thou ones down,:doh

I have no idea if they are available, I need two washers between 18 and 28 thou but they have to be the same to keep the geometry the same, I will be trying the lathe tomorrow on the washers I have cos even if I destroy them they are no good to me anyway, never tried turning something so thin before so here goes, Rick
