Hope somebody can help with my next little problem! Checked one front auto hub and its shot not locking at all. So today tried the other but sheared 3 of the four pins from my locking nut key :eek: anybody know of a cheap diy way of getting it off:nenau cant hammer a socket on as its one of the stupid big rounded types that use pins so a socket doesnt fit. Also doesnt seem to be enough space to weld a socket on as the wheel has recessed holes. Im at a bit of a loss and i need to get the 4wd sorted as its been pi**ing down with snow most of the day and im pretty sure the gritters are still tucked up in bed

You can do your hubs without taking off the wheel:D
Just go straight for the 6 allen key bolts:cool:

i managed to hammer a socket on that type and iv'e still got the lock nut stuck in the socket to prove it.
i couldn't get a hex socket on so i thrashed one of them other type ones on(shaped like a pastry cutter)22mm if i remember correctly.
i sheared off all three pins on my tool and almost broke my thumb when it went so be carefull.

cheers guys, i cant get my hubs off because the alloys cover the allen bolts unfortunately and i just cant get a socket on as the socket walls are too thick for the clearance between wheel and bolt. Im back at work monday so will try a local tyre place see if they can help :nenau

halfords do a lock nut remover. Same thing happened to me recently. It only cost me a tenner from them and it fits over the lock nut with a reverse thread. Once it catches on the nut it gradually tightens until the nut loosens.

so if the remover cost £10.. why do we bother with locking wheel nuts any ways!!:nenau

yeah. It was really easy to remove them. i suppose it does take longer to remove the nuts and it is much noisier since I needed to smack the socket with a hammer to ge the embedded nut out of it once it was off the wheel.

As a 'by the way' when I remived my locking nuts, I replaced them with standard nuts as we really dont get many wheels being stolen over here. If anything they will steel the car for joyriding and T2 are not very good for that.
