Hi I'm an xtrail newbie but I've had a Nissan a while now (just moved over from NPOC - Primera)
I have just bought a 2002 x-trail SE plus with a removable / lockable towbar (the rear 12" of the bar unlocks and lifts off to save your shins whilst shopping etc). Rookie error but I presumed the single car key would fit and didn't check - it doesn't! So have car and caravan and a week off and can't tow! (Wife not happy!!)
It's a Spanish Import and has a Cintra towbar and so far I have tried the dealer I bought it from (he's chasing the place he got it from but no joy yet) Nissan (not a standard part) and a local locksmith with no joy.
The towbar is currently off the car with the pushlock engaged so I can't even put it on the car and lock it on permanent style.
I could replace the whole thing with a UK part (I need to put a double socket on in any case as its only got a single socket) but that's quite pricey. I could also try more locksmiths but it's getting to them with the lock and/or towbar.
So help, bit stuck, any ideas much appreciated.

our zippy is a caravan engineer ...... and lives in Wiltshire !!!!! :naughty:thumb2

pop in to see our zippy , he will sort it one way or another :thumb2

thats £89 .00 for just bar, or £131.90 for bar alko extended neck bolt on ball and
twin electrics ( 12n/s not euro) not fitted.

not bad, I'm in Sheffield home of Towsure but last time used PCT who make and fit
as well, just looked up your XT on their site and a flange bar alone is £188.00

Tbh could keep costs down just go for fitting a new bar and alko ball as applicable
and leave electrics as single as if the 12s isnt really that much cop if you want to
chill fridge and charge battery before trip. I f have hook up on site, benefits on
journey negligible and save a lot of time rewiring car. Can always add later. Just
fit bar and get on holiday you know it makes sense.

Alko ball about 12 quid.

Thanks Guys especially TtT2. I think the fixed replacement may be the way to g,o especially as I have a decent towbar mountable bike rack from the old car which I can refit to a fixed towbar (but not to the removable version). Also agree re not messing with the electrics, not sure changing an existing double socket from a current single is worth it. Will look into that (thank for the link)

welcome.

can always add 12s mind i havent bothered for years with one til this one. only thing
is has reverse light if trailer has one.

also with flange bar can easily add stuff like bike racks, stabilizer receiver plates etc.

It seems you have sorted your problem but just in case you rethink , I have had two removable hitch towbars from the above company under 100.00 delivered . Excellent quality .
