Gents, trying to fit my tunit box however the search for the ECU has failed. I have looked underneath the carpet (passenger side) and behind the center console however no ECU. Where the hell is it??? My T2 is a 2001 2.7tdi if it makes any difference.

Cheers
Dave

Haven't had the need to go hunting for the one in my Terrano but in my Maverick it was underneath the centre console behind the handbrake :thumb2

It's behind/on top of the storage pocket below the ashtray, the one at the bottom of centre dash.
All the centre dash needs removing(radio, ashtray and all plastics) and centre console needs removing as well.:thumb2

I had a look there and couldn't see anything that remotely resembed the ECU. I shall double check. The tunit leaflet says center console or under carpet drivers side???

Wow!!! That's quite involved then I hope that I don't ever need to get to mine. Did you take any pics while it was all apart?

Banshee I had my apart anyway as I have got to plumb in my boost gauge and already had my volt gauge connected. The one thing I did wonder is if I take the radio out (want to change it to single din) will the NATS system think the radio has been stolen and immobilise the car??? Or can it be taken out and left out???

Air on the side of caution there matey as I'm sure I've read horror stories about the head unit being removed and messing up the NATS on the car, have a search on the forum, I'm sure there was a long thread on this

Before I changed my radio, the origanal was refitted to the car and there were no problems. The main area of problem is trying to replace the Nissan unit with another Nissan unit from another car.

Where did my other post go? The ecu is under a false floor on the passneger side foot well on my 1999 T2. I beleive the unit behind the radio is called the Timer Unit and is for the NATS system.

Lazy I don't have a false floor on my passenger side (well not one that I could see). Need to find someone that has a 2001 T2 for a definitive answer. I did wonder about the radio, don't want to take it out and then suddenly find the car has been immobilised. Have got a after market radio so need to cut the wires and join.

You can get a converter lead for the Nissan, so no need to cut wires. You will also need a converter for the aerial as Nissan use what looks like a squat "popper" connector, rather than the more normal long thin plug, but that can be got off the shelf at places like Halfrauds.

My last Terrano was a Y reg (2001) and the ECU was in the same place as my 2003 model.

When you take all of the middle dash out (Including radio, ashtray and the cubbyhole at the bottom in front of gear sticks), it (ECU) is on top of where the cubbyhole was. You'll have to remove it from it's mounting to be able to see where the (4?) wires attach.:thumbs

Looking at the diagram above, the ECU is upright.:nenau
Both of mine where horizontal not vertical and not immediately obvious at first glance!:thumb2

Hiya mate, I'm not 100% but I have a feeling it could be tucked up above the glove box, I had trouble with mine when I tried to fit a different head unit, when I called in at the garage to take pics of part numbers glove box was out and ECU was hanging down, I think it is attached with a black mounting cradle, hope this helps, Mark. :)

Looks like I'm going to be rather busy just trying to locate this bloody thing. I can see why people say that fitting a tunit chip is a 5 minute job but finding the ecu takes all day.

Lol yeh:lol, forgot to say mine is a 2000 2.7tdi
I haven't read up on tunit, or anything like it, will u let me know what u think when it's in please, cheers bud, Mark.

My old Terrano was a 2000 and the ECU was also under a false floor in the passengers foot well.

I now have a 2005 Terrano which has an additional small metal box in the centre console behind the hand break but it looks very small in comparison to the ECU I had in my 2000 Terrano and I'm wondering if this is really the ECU.

I think that box is part of the airbag circuit.
