the s f bit was i expect

when we played on the rocky dip ,and we went round the puddle into the mud and ruts paul took the puddle route

rerun the video and i think i know which bit you mean Col, but i defy anybody to say definitively which is the correct path - same is true at a number of points on SF....but by all means someone prove me wrong. :nenau

yes i know. and im the first one who dont agree the forestry owns our countryside. same as walters buying a mountain for a quid then mining it and building a stadium up there and managing to close centuries old roads ... but they do

one thing id say ok crag did the work on the footbridge at the steps on the sarn.... you provide powys council with a footbridge to encourage hikers and mountain bikes etc..... they did all that ,,,, so why the f... is the sarn closed for good then to motor vehicles

i can see an argument for behaving but if the ramblers assosiation want access accross your land . they will come in and damage what they see fit to use a forgotten path

as for terra going around an obstickle and going int a wood to go round. its not nesseserily the wood owner who is responsible for the blocked lane. so you could have anadvertantly damaged some poor blokes wood area because of the actions of the person who blocked the lane.... not nit picking just a thought... it vould have just as easilly been the wood owner and the lane owner are the same person... who knows

all i can say is there are lots of lanes being closed is it due to the actions of a few idiots or the lack of balls to protest by many people

just my thoughts

thats what i wanted to disguss... i had hoped we could debate this subject without having to resort to name calling and singling out one person

so does crag work.... really.... i mean the sarn is closed yet crag fixed it up

i expect there are other examples for and against

should we do it softly softly or protest. we still have a right to protest peacefully

so please can we be grown ups and discuss it and stop this playground bullying

No but it is the landowners responsibility to keep the lane clear. In that case it wasfallen tree which considering the high winds had been a few weeks previous and the ide back on the tree had been fallen for some time - long enough in fact for a trach around to hav developed in the woods, it han't had loas of traffic but there was a line visible that people had used.

I'd absolutely agree with that viewpoint Terra - all I think we're trying to point out is how easy it is to stray without knowing you're doing it. I'm still in the dark as to what significant deviation we made on Strata as its impossible in some parts to tell what is the original track and what isn't.

If nobody wants to tell us, yet thinks its worthy of criticism then I don't know what we do. :nenau

BTW your cheque is in the post today for the lights, sorry for the delay.:)

This is why you should view the definitive map for your area or go with/speak to some one who has.

I have not seen the video in question so cannot comment on where or if anyone left the track but from the sounds of it one person took a different line at some point and that was not on the lane. I have also seen a photo of a frontera in the group off the lane the obvious line of the lane.

Yes that Fronty was the transgression I referred to earlier Terra that I spotted as we were driving.

TNH I did look at the SF route on Trailfinder, ditto the Soar-Y-Mynydd track that Nathan recommended, and have to say that I just don't think they provide enough detail to be able to say which of two tracks, only feet apart in most cases, is the right one. And with a track like SF thats what, 12-14 miles long, its impossible to track every inch of the way accurately, especially with the amount of traffic you'd be blocking in the process.

So I can see why people inadvertantly stray off the path, although you're right, theres no excuse for taking a route that clearly destroys or deteriorates an area, like peat, that was obviously not part of the original route..in this case it was youthful enthusiasm and inexperience and he very quickly got back on to the rocky track again having realised what he'd done.
