Let us s'pray (headlamp and back window washer)

Recently swapped my 1998 Terrano for a 2002 jobie. Nice clean motor with half the mileage and half the rattles:thumbs. Everything seems to work OK so far except for a couple of things.
The rear window washer----can hear pump going , cleared jet with needle but still only the odd spot of liquid slowly oozes out.
Also, the offside headlamp washers does not spray but dumps lots of fluid onto the ground in front of the wheel and it seems very awkward to get at the back of the bumper mounted jet. The other headlamp spray is good.:thumb2

Looking for some hints about possible easy fixes:augie Looks like a bit of a demon to get at the washer bottle/pumps.
Have had no signs of water over back door stop light---no damp patches. Tube is still connected to jet OK---plenty of anti freeze solution in system.

Any hints or tips would be welcome------before I start doing all the wrong things.:doh

back washer, all i can think if would be to work from the bottle end, take the pipe off the pump.. cound be making a noies but not realy pumping.. then off at the other end.. try a spaire pipe see if that works if it does pipes blocked.. so will need to be replaced


lamp washer. my guess would be a pipes come off or split..

PS i didn tthink they had a one way valve, bu tthen cause they have, cause i can get my kids wet when they open the door.. I think its GREAT fun. they dont though.. no idea why..

I've just had a prob with my rear wash not workingTBH I thought it was a split pipe or something, well after finding it:lol I tracked it all the way back checking the pipes work which turned out okwhere the pipe go's from the body into the rear door there is a rubber boot, if you pull it away from the back panel of the body shell there is a small oneway valve fitted into the washer pipe (white & black) mine must have become blocked:doh so I put a bit of 2.5" brake pipe in place of the valve & hay presto rear wash again:thumb2 but i'm going to the breakers to try & get a couple of spare ones as there is one fitted on the front system. if this is your prob i'll get you one if I can/you want:thumb2
The headlight washers sound as they are either full of dirt or poss have a faulty valve like the rear

Sweety---- Thanks for your offer to pick up non return valve---very kind of you ; however, the problem turned out to be a blocked 90degree bend behind the jet assembly. Resorted to blasting WD40 backwards through both jets and ( much to my surprise ) the washer works now.

Probably wait for some warmer weather before tackling headlamp washer.

Tackle the headlamp washer from another direction. I'm assuming that when built the pipe is run and suck up through the bumper and then from above the jet and pipe are connected and then it goes in to the bumper from the top. You may well find it is held in by some kind of lugs on either side of the jet. You may be able to gently lever the jet up slightly and insert a small screwdriver to push the lugs one by one. I'm only guessing as I've seen number plate lamps and stuff held in that way and it seems a logical way of doing it.
Hey sweety thanks for telling us where that one way valve is because mine too has stopped working and I wasn't sure where that valve was.

My whole washer system keeps blocking although not as bad as it was. I noticed small black flakes on the windscreen and could never work out where they cam from until my front jets kept blocking up. The washer bottle had like an algae or scale on the inside of it which kept getting sucked through the system which I understand others have suffered too. I gave up on trying to get to the bottle so I simply wedged a hose in the bottle one day and left it for a while to over flow and wash it out. It's been loads better but there must still be a little left inside.

green algae.. may be some fish tamk cleaner might help.. no idea it it will work though. just an idea..

This stuff was black zippy, more likely to be caused by screen wash I think rahter than a natural algae as there aint much light to the bottle. Same kind of slime though.

Hi Sweety. Thanks for your kind words but I didn't tell the whole story.

Really , the only SIMPLE thing around here is ME. I had the rear door trim completely off tracing the pipework. Delved into the grommets from door to body etc. , never did find anything like a NRV. took pipe off rh bend at jet and fluid flowed freely when washer switch was operated.:nenau Had to assume jet incorporated NRV or was bunged up with crud. Blasting with WD40 was a sort of last resort, let's see if it does any good:augie
Anyway ,it worked , how and why is beyond me but I'll settle for ignorance being bliss so long as it works (and hopefully carries on working).

One good thing was to see how everything looked shinney-bright and new inside the door.:thumbs
