RBL Festival of Remembrance on BBC1 now

Parade tomorrow afternoon, you know where Pete.

Late afternoon drink to their memory

We do remember them

South East 4x4 Response are doing all the road closures for the parade in Chatham tomorrow.

We have to be there at 8am and it does not finish until 13.00.

I didn't even know they had an 8am on a Sunday!!

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

Will be at our village memorial with the rest of the fire station tomorrow, always a privilege to be there.

it is right and proper that we remember our fallen who gave the ultimate sacrifice , but let us also not forget those who are injured / maimed and the families torn apart by grief ......... thankyou and god bless you all .

The Royal British Legion will always be there for them as are other organisations. I dont think there are any other countries that have non government support networks for their braves lads n lasses and their families.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

We will remember them.....

I'm always amazed at the way some people act, for many years I have attended the poppy day memorial in our village.
Because the memorial is on a grass area next to a main road, the Police close the road for about 10-15 mins, while we all file in and the vicar reads the names of all the fallen, lay reefs and we remember in silence, say prayers and then file out again.

We have had selfish Sh1ts tooting their horns (got his comeuppance) , asking aloud how long the road will be closed or just sitting in their cars with music playing.

I know it's an individuals choice, but these morons forget that many have fallen, to give them that choice. :(:(

My young teenage daughter was selling poppies yesterday as she did the previous week. A member of the public bought one for a few coppers and then proceeded to tear it up in front of her. :nenau

However this will not be allowed to spoil what today is about and she will be there holding head up.

Jim,
Thankfully with young folks with a conscience, like your duaghter, there is some hope.
My Grandads, Mother, Father and I have all taken the `Kings Shilling`, and proud of it.
The morons that will buy then tear up a poppy in front of the seller is only making one point. Not thiers, only that they have no brain.
We may disagree with conflicts, I do with many, but please give a thought to those that serve, have served, will never serve again, and those maimed in the conflicts we may or may not agree with.
Politicians start wars fo soldiers to fight.

We did our bit, and had to keep a car park closed for where the procession was to form, and direct the people who would normally use the carpark we were closing, to the one over the road... and then 2 brief road closures to allow the procession to exit our car park, travel along a short stretch of road, before turning into the high street, and the reverse upon their return.

The Carpark across the road, was a multi-story NCP one, which would not normally be open on a Sunday, and was free for the day, so no hardship at all for anyone to use, other than their initial fear they might have to pay a charge....

The day started with a Scout leader, who was there to be in the parade telling us we were jobsworths and Jokes, who take Health and Safety too far, and he had parked in that carpark for 20 years with no problems... He then went wheel spinning across the road, and got parked in the first spot inside the door of the NCP, so was basically no worse off, other than having to cross a road, and go into a nice open hard space where the groups could form in safety... He was just a Numpty, and for me, a worry that he is the sort of person who is setting an example to the young adults of tomorrow.

Other than him, the day went very well, with most people saying how much nicer it was to not have to worry about the kids, and cars all mixing in one place. Just a few motorists were inconvenienced for 10 mins or so, when the procession returned at the end, and people took a bit longer to clear the road into the carpark, but all the waiting cars were well behaved, switched off their engines, and waited.

The up side were a lot of people were very impressed with the way it all went and the local MP for Chatham stopped and thanked us individually as he passed our control points, saying that because of cuts, they were originally going to cancel the whole thing, and if it had not been for RayNet and SE4x4R stepping in, it would not have gone ahead the last 2 years. We had just one police officer assigned to the whole thing, so no cost to the community, other than some council road signs and cones dropped off and picked up, and the loss of car park takings for a day. Even the Police officer, was a "Special".

One nice touch was a Spitfire flew over as it was finishing..

Well done Clive, just got back in and having a nice warm cuppa. The parade went very well and was well attended by people young and old. The main road was closed for half hour, the bands were really good and the service very moving. I was a little upset as a friend wasnt able to make it as he is ill at the moment, he suffers from ptsd and is going through a bad patch.

On the whole a very proud afternoon indeed.

Dear Briggie

Thank you for the post

We must all remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

In these times it is more profound because some people forget and abuse the freedom that they have.

Many thanks

Paulp
