well my injection pump is leaking from the rear underside i was hopeing it was a leak off pipe as they are regular problems i notice a small fuel leak when i recently did the ball joints etc.

decided to investigate today spare leak off pipes at the ready.

it defo isnt a pipe but a little unit thingy on the rear underside of the injection pump i cant find it in the work shop manual at all looks like a seal between this little thiny and the pump has gone soooooooooo is it a straight forward job taking it off having never done one before the work shop manual talks about removeing the timeing chain suerly not ?

its a small leak that im sure will only get bigger with time as a biker i cant stand to have any fuel leak what so ever so it will need sorting sooner rather than later, its a bosch pump can i buy seal kits etc if so where from

thanks guys

What year is the Terrano, is it a mechanical pump, or the later fly by wire?

Could it be the banjo nut for the mini filter?:nenau

Rustic

Edit, just re-read the post...
Timing chain... is it a petrol then?

its defo not a leak off pipe it looks like one of the electrical connectors bolted to the rear lower part of the pump its leaking between it and the pump

have found a decent picture on ebay of it so i now know what im dealing with but looks impossible to get at with the pump on the engine

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-TE...rts_SM&fits=Model:Terrano&hash=item2586532dd2

here you go the very last picture at the botton rear you can see an electrical wire going into the little silvery round thing well that where my leak is between that part and the main pump body its clearly bolted on so must have a gasket/seal

U can get to it with pump syill on engine but be very careful u dont round off the torque heads and hopefully for u its not stuck in there like mine was as urs is leaking if it is tight think u will have to take pump off as mine was so tight u had no swing to get the little f**ker out good luck.

ok got better access now wheel off rubber splash cover off spray it all with cleaner now obvious as its the lowest part at the back thats where its running to it now looks like the leak is comming from between the pump and injector body only a slight weep but its there was hopeing it would be the banjo bolt but no such luck

am now busy trying to find a pump seal kit i know their out there found an old post from some one in nz who had his done. in the mean time does any one have a scrap bosch injector pump i can play with first before i strip mine down. happy to pay for it would like to experiment with an old one so i can decide if i recon mine or just get a sh one

ok after a little bit of searching it is the main injector pump head seal which has failed a common fault with these pumps so i have ordered a new seal

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231110012754?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

also found this the seal can be seen at 17 mins 23 seconds skip the rest

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n94BvDvDJgM

looks almost impossible to do on the car there just isnt the room to get to it and bit called fall out when removing the head unit, watch this space

could still use an old pump for reference before i strip it all down any one got one ?

You are correct I would not try and do that on the engine unless I had done one on the bench first, have you tried cncfabs for a pump, and does that mean you are now not mobile, thinking about Sunday as will probably not go on my own, Rick

hi rick its a small leak will continue to use the car and will be there sunday no problem after hours of re-search it seems a simple repair even possible with the pump in place but would need to remove the starter which is far simpler than removing the ip. and as said would like to try on the bench first with an old pump.

will pm cncfabs regards old pump the research has been usefull from putting engine oil stop leak into the fuel tank to simple how to guides on changing the seal. i used oil stop leak many years a go in an old sherpa van and it went on for years after and never leaked a drop again although would prefer a proper repair via seal replacement.

the seal failure has been put down to many things from ulsd to just plain old age where the rubber dries out oddly bio diesel users dont suffer from this failure of the seal due to the reaction bio has on rubber keeping the seals softened so for any of you bio users out there you should be ok.

see you sunday all being well

OK I only have to repair a damaged snorkel this afternoon so will be at Slindon around 10.30 ish give me a ring around 10.15 to arrange a meet point, Rick

update on injection pump leak

so after much searching it is clear that these pumps are common bosch units all be it suppled to nissan for a dedicated vehicle but generally a standard IP and as such will suffer what i have found to be a pretty standard/common fault mainly put down to ultra low sulfar deisel which has had the effect of drying out pump seals the most common seal being the large O ring seal fitted between the injector head and the main body.

i have bought a second hand pump off fleabay and when it turns up im going to try the most common meathed of resealing it on the bench just to see if it can be done first before attemping it on the car if not removing the injector pump doesnt look to be much of a big deal.

in the mean time i have risked life and lim out in the storms today trying a temp fix others have tried with their leaky injector head and that is to add ENGINE OIL STOP LEAK to the fuel tank. instead of just pouring it into the fuel tank i rigged up a temp fuel supply in the engine bay and mixed about 100ml to about 600ml of pump deisel (the can says it treats up to 6 litres of engine oil) and let it run threw the Ip i had the fuel return pipe looping back into the temp fuel container so i new the pump would get a good dose of stop leak once it was all gone i sprayed the Ip with brake cleaner and watch for leaks from where i had seen it leaking before.

nothing no leak no drips nothing so it looks like the leak has been temporarily fixed, i just couldnt keep driving around knowing i was leaking diesel on the road

i take no credit for this iv just tried what others have, for some its been a permanant fix for others a temp one the engine stop leak softens the dried up seals so helping it to reseal its self i will check in a couple of days to see if it is leaking again or not.

new seal arrived today :doh but until iv got the old pump here to strip down im not touching mine

watch this space

so the s/h pump arrived iv been playing with it to see if this is a safe on car repair. so far it looks like it will be but access to the pump is limited so until i get a dry day i wont know for sure.

it seems that the electronic controlled pumps we have on our tdi,s are better suited for this O ring replacement iv slacken off the injector head just enough to remove the seal from this old pump and nothing inside comes loose or falls out we dont have the 2 little spring that cause all the problems for others with the same/similar pump

iv also removed the top part of the pump and looked inside while doing this all seems good, the video links i posted showing the pump being put "on cam" or under compression from the big pump springs, either on or off cam all seems fine with no parts comming out, falling lose inside the ip.

so just need a dry day to tackle this job:rolleyes: the temp fix is just a very small weep but its still leaking :doh

iv had the old pump in lots of bits n pieces seems simple enough if any one every needs to rebuild thiers:augie

todays update

so todays update then i can confirm there is no way the IP distributor head O ring can be replace from below or via the inner wheel arch.

i had to go in via the top so battery off, intercooler off, inlet manifold off, plus all the wireing, injector pipes off and finnally access to the injector pump.

the idea is to see if this common seal which fails can be replaced without removeing the injector pump and removing as little as possible to replace it, well i managed to replace the seal no problem but it took 2 goes i didnt check to see if it was seated properly and split the 1st seal in 2 halfs luckily i found this out early when i primed the pump, fuel pissing out every where :doh 2nd go then no problem was easier 2nd time around as these things usually are. luckily i bought 2 seals :D

pump primed ok then took a deep breath and packed up for the night i have no idea yet if the pump internal are still intact/located in there normal positions i will have to reasemble the inlet manifold ect to find out, i have been making new inlet manifold gaskets this evening as the old ones all crumbled away

tomorrow will be the big day if it has worked leaky IP fixed on the car if not :( internal meltdown of the IP:eek::eek::eek:

only managed to drop 1 spanner down the gap between the front bumper never to be seen again if this all works bumpers gotta come off to retrieve it my trusty magnet driver couldnt find it

Me thinking it may easier to remove the rad, injector pipes and other pump connections and remove the pump, but as said before have not worked on these diesel versions so may not be as easy as that, timing comes to mind but scribed line on pump and engine should eliminate that as long as engine not turned, Rick

you could be right rick rad and ps pump are the only things left on but i didnt fancy pulling the timeing chain off will see tomorrow if it was the right thing todo.

Its Gears mate, think there should be an access plate over the pump gear, but not sure, will look tomorrow if I remember, Rick
