Giys/girls I need a quick fix for a slight coolant leak from what I would describe as the sump and the bottom of the engine. It is definitely coolant as sweet to taste and leaks only when hot. I have tried tightening the nuts near the leak however this hasn't worked. I need a quick fix as goingoing on holiday as of Monday. Any ideas????

Can't be the sump bud as there's only oil in there (if there's coolant too you have problems! ).

The coolant will be dripping down from further up. I've got a Trol so can't tell you the usual suspects but one of the Terrano owners will keep you right.

Cheers, am slightly worried now lol. I have taken a photo however can't seem to add it as don't have photo bucket etc. It's not oily just slightly rusty coloured and sweet to taste. The only way I can explain it is directly above the metal guard attached to the front bumper.

Is it just a few drips forming a very small pool. In the centre just under front of car?

Itll be water pump leaking, replace and itll be fine.

No drips at all when it's cold but a reasonable size puddle once up to temperature. Appears to be leaking out of a seal right at the bottom of the engine. What will happen if I run the car with the water coming out dripping?? Should I just try and seal it etc. I have got to drive 150 miles on Monday???

Check all fluid levels.Could be water pump air con etc...

most likely to be either the thermostat housing , or rad hose .. thermostat housing will leak coolant down the block so it appears to be coming from elsewhere

The water pump doesnt leak when engine is cold. It leaks when youve had engine running and then leave it.

Get the engine hot, then have a look higher up, sound like water pump or stat housing.

If you have to use it, make sure you carry lots of fluid and check regularly :thumb2

Most likely the water pump is leaking from the bottom edge which is a pig to spot, got mine nice & warm switched off the engine, dropped the front skid plate & covered the lower part of the water pump with talc & went in for a cuppa, when I went out again could clearly see the talc had soaked up the coolant:thumb2 only down side to this is when you start the engine again it's like a snow storm under the bonnet as the fan blew the talc every where:lol

Thanks for the info gents, taking the old girl to the wizard that is solarman216 aka Rick. Hopefully we can come up with something which enables me to travel with the rest of my family on holiday.

Changing the water pump is an easy job if that's the cause last one I did took 35mins but it was -1'c & snowing so didn't hang about doing it:lol:lol
