Hi all I haven't used the terrano for the last 4 days but got in it today to go to work and found 3 inches of water in the passenger side footwell any ideas before I burn it lol
1. Get a hose pipe, open front doors (do both sides). Look behind the lower hinges, crud will of built up behind the bottom of the plastic wheel arch liner. Make a habbit of this even if it is not your ingress.
2. The black plastic scuttle panel below windscreen that your windscreen wipers poke out of. Behind this above the heater box there is a black panel, this needs removing and resealing. You need to remove wiper arms before you can remove the scuttle panel to reveal the heater inspection panel. Clean the edges and give it a real good squirt of automotive sealant or silicone sealant. (My money is on this being the problem).
3. Sunroof drain blocked or rubber hose come off the drain. Slide sunroof all the way back and you can see four holes to let water drain away. I got nylon cord from a strimmer and fed it all the down the drains and tested by pouring water carefully down each drain. If the hose has come off the drain your head lining will be damp. Remove sunvisor, grab hamdle and peel door seal off. You should then have access to gently pull the head lining down and you'll find a rubber hose that should be connected to the sunroof drain.
4. Tailgate seal is letting water in and the water is travelling along boot floor and both footwells. (Less likely).
From memory those are the culprits that I've heard about.

Luckily the floor is flat, and opening the passenger door will get rid of most of that 3" :thumb2
maybe leave about 1/2" still a pain though.
To drain it as it comes in, remove the passenger lower door trim and seal should stop it getting too deep.
The only guys on this forum who have had that much water, have been fording some deep water.
Normally I would agree scuttle plate, easy to sort, or sun roof drain, but to be fair never have we heard of one that bad.
Sounds like someone has stuck a running hose in there.
in terms of ns footwell and my mk4 has a nice pool under mats just found.
on my mk 2 found had to remove front mud flaps and hose out from that side.
seem to recall that area on ns was full of crud so water coming down from sunroof
and from screen area then coming over inner sills behind bonnet release area.
also worth checking sill drains. here i have an issue as on mk2 there was a nice
vertical hole moulded to sill rear of front flaps, though cannot see them on the mk4.
at rear should be small hole in lip of sill, trace fingers round and down arch to
flat area. thin wire, poked in, have metal coat hanger that seems to fat for holes
that may be rusted and cruded up.
looked at mine just now. the puddle in footwell nearside seems to come
from the under the panel where bonnet release is just as did on my old mk2.
theres no sign of the carpet being wet coming down from under the globe box area.
decided to attack as found before as last time took off wiper cover and no issue found
so straight into taking ns mud flap off. doing so I found the sill drain hole large as life
but maybe the flap moulding covers it more plus side step masks too.
checked os and now know where to look it can be seen.
poked both holes with coat hanger metal but no benefit. no sudden flow!
peeled rubber line of ns arch out of way slightly, remove 4 more screws round
arch that hold flare trim in place but maybe not needed.
hole behind rubber 4 inches high/square packed mud though not that deep. poked
out then hosed out from here and door hinge side.
before putting flap back on as toyed with leaving it off to get more road spray
around to flush, put hose on screen and noted most of water comes down bulkhead
or via scuttle area and then drains out through this cavity.
my feeling is n/s will clog up more than o/s due to camber of road so more much
thrown up in arch, few leaves came out too so again parking to near side more
likely to gain foilage to add to the gunge.
not checked o/s as no puddle yet and didn't have issue before.
summary as the 4 inch square/cube of gunge builds up water cannot flow out
so comes in, maybe by capilary action over inner sill into footwell. knowing
what a pain it is taking wipers and scuttle off, I'd start at flap every time.
When I got my truck I removed the front mud flaps and found plenty of crap there, I gave the area a good hose down and also the bit when you open the front doors and look towards the wheels. My scuttle area was leaking when I had my wet carpet and I found the seal on the panel was letting water in. Hope you have a nice dry year now:thumb2
No chance still have boot issues despite reals ealing back door areas. It wet under middle row too so fear have trouble in floor. Not dared venture there yet.
