I've been doing some research on late Bosch type MAFs and hopefully this information will be useful to others. I have a 2005 2.7TDi and the Nissan part number on the MAF sensor housing is 22680-7F406. The housing contains another smaller tube inside the housing that MAF sensor dangles into. A replacment MAF sensor from Nissan is £323.92 +VAT. It is possible to buy genuine Bosch replacement versions for £190 inc VAT.

This sensor differs from the earlier sensor which has part no 22680-7F400. I tried a sensor of this type and it gave amazing low down torque but as soon as the car warmed up it lost all power and I could only get home by disconnecting the MAF sensor and switching the ignition off then starting again.

The 22680-7F406 sensor is also used in the 3.0 Terrano. The Nissan part number refers to the complete unit so the housing and the sensor itself. My research indicated that the corresponding Bosch number was 0281002596 and that this used the sensor insert with Bosch part number F00C 2G2 061.

This sensor insert is also used in other manufacturers MAF sensors. In particular it is used in the 'Vectra C' with Vauxhall part number 93173727 (or Scania part no 24437503) although the housing is wrong. With the correct 5 pointed security bit you can remove the sensor to examine and swap it. A new genuine Vectra sensor with Bosch number 0281 002 479 costs £130 inc VAT.

To confirm this I bought a secondhand Vectra MAF housing with sensor and it does indeed contain a sensor insert with part no. F00C 2G2 061. I swapped the insert with my tired old original and now I have loads more torque at low rpm, there's not much difference at high rpm.

So to summarise, if your Nissan MAF sensor has part no 22680-7F406 then a cheaper alternative is to buy Vauxhall part 93173727 and swap just the insert into the Nissan housing.

Wow you have been working hard at this one, only hope this is of some help to the latter version owners, sadly it is no help to me, best regards Rick

im sure there will be plenty of people finding this helpful over time, nice work!

No, but it's easy enough to look at the part number on the outside of the MAF housing to see which type you have.

I think (but I'm not completely sure) that all 3.0's (so from 2002 to 2006) will use the 22680-7F406 MAF and that the 2.7's changed sometime in 2004 but there are probably exceptions.

I've a Hitachi for sale from my Maverick, £20 + Postage :)

Worked a dream, the Mav had lots of low down power and flew top end, I've also cleaned it a few times with Electrical contact cleaner (non-sillicone) just to keep it good
