Had a good read of your posts Briggie, It seems like everything you went through. I'll definately do a service, clean the mini filter and see if I can figure the gearing out

auto box

Hi packman

i had similar concerns about the autobox in my truck.

The best settings for everyday driving is the switch in AT mode and the overdrive engaged (orange light on the dash is off)

The gear box seems to have long low gears and will rev right to the red line before changing but slips into top/ overdrive gear quickly.

I found that when giving it the beans and then just slightly dropping the revs will let the gears engage smoother and quicker.

When on a motorway the gearbox should stay in top gear unless you go for an agressive overtake or very steep hill. Top gear is quite a long gear that allows quite a good change of speed without dropping into the next gear down.

Once i drove my truck like a 2.7 diesel auto and not a 4.0 litre V8 irealised that my driving manner was not suiting the truck but once adjkusted I love it.

Wooooohooooooo its sorted

It was the mini filter like you said. Changed the air filter and cleaned out the mini filter, it goes like a rocket now!!!!!! Thanks for your advice, I'm gonna change the oil and fuel filter tomorrow to finish the service off.

As for the ATF dip stick, where is it? I can't find it anywhere

Cheers Mark

the atf dipstick is a absolute pig to find because its low down ,and a dark colour .... i think its brown , or something like that , its near the bulkhead not far from the engine oil dipstick ...... but a twot to find

I also suffer from the vehicle straining to get up hills.

Can someone point me to the location of the 'mini-filter'?

I don't see it mentioned in the online maintenance manual.

My vehicle is a Mistral 2.7TD (no i/c)

Regards

Andy
