hi there guys and gals,
i have a problem with my mav.
we went out yesterday to a car booty, we came back to the car and tried to start it.
it started and then after about two seconds gave up hope and stopped. this happened another three times before starting and running ok.
this happened another two times during the course of the day.
i have just been out to it and the thing wont start, had green flag out and they are telling me that there is no feed (pressure) to the fuel filter so there may be a problem with the fuel pump either electrical of mechanical.
does mine have an electrical pump?
perhaps in the tank?
i thought that the mechanical pump sucked it through the filter, is mr green flag a bit green and new in the job?
any help or advice would really be welcome right now!
and no im not gonna use a match and a gallon of petrol!:doh

av you tryed gravety feeding the pump to see if it runs any better ,, as filter could be block or the pick up pipe is clogged up in the tank ,, try blowing down the pipe that runs back to the tank :thumb2 you should be able to freely blow back to the tank dont try blowing threw the filter just the pipe from the filter to the tank ,,failing that you can fit a ele fuel pump in between the pipes , aslo when was the filter last changed ,,

cheers for the advice bazza, its to blooming hot right now so it can wait until the weekend now, i have another car so not a pressing issue at the moment but one that needs sorting.
i will try your suggestions next weekend and post on here to let you know how i got on.
may even try one night this week if the mood takes me lol

Have you recently replaced the fuel filter?
If so air could be getting in via the filter seal at the top.

If not, air could be getting in from the line from the tank to the pump via the filter.

There is no positive pressure to the filter as there is no pump in the tank.

Could the fuel lines be letting air in near the drivers side rear arch area?

sounds just like air getting into the fuel line

ive changed all mine for clear so I can see where the leak is if it happends again..

well when i have time i will try out all of your recommendations, first things first though, what for dinner?
gravity feeding is the start, as i have not replaced the fuel filter and am not losing fuel so there shouldnt be an air leak on the supply line.
if this works i will have to employ a young erk to sit on my bonnet holding a fuel can whilst i drive around like lord muck!!!

still worth looking while your under it, As its a very common area for leaks and fuel problems.

Costs nothing to look and clean the area.

the fuel is sucked from the tank.
not pumped from the tank

so a little pin hole can let enough air in to cause problems
it may on lt enough are in when not running so the fuel runs back to the tank. ( my problem) once started behaved normaly.

Righto!
Check for air leaks then as it's more than likely the problem.
Thanks guys for you advice and telephone response!

You see zippy, it's not all about photographs lol
I had rick Solarman ring me up to discuss the problem.
Once you join this club it's like you all become family and the comradeship is amazing!
