Hi folks, need to book the Trol in for her MOT before middle of next month. Would normally use an independent place near my flat but it isn't really an option this time as I'm staying at the farm just now (12 miles away from my flat) so I can help out a bit more than usual as my Grandad's just had his hip replaced.

Don't think there's anything needing done to her (feverishly touching wood!) so I'm just looking for a place to get the MOT done and it looks like someplace near my work is probably the best option (I don't work in the same place as my flat unfortunately).

There's a Kwik Fit very (very) near my work so was thinking about putting it in there. If anything needed done, I'd either do it myself or get it done elsewhere.

What's the opinion on Kwik Fit for MOT's? :nenau

Kwik fit around here are often the cheapest but have a much higher fail rate than other garages as they make their money on the repairs:augie If you take your motor away from the garage where the MOT was carried out to do the repairs yourself etc they can legally charge you for another MOT even tho it's only a retest:doh (loads do it around here) so i'd check this out where ever you take it:thumbs

A local independent garage that I use has had many arguments with the local kwickfit after having distressed customers go to see him with a big quote from kwickfit for unnecessary work after an unjust MOT fail.

Only anecdotal but I would only go there as a last resort.

That's the thing, any repairs and I'd sort out a way to take it to a garage I know and trust (ie. the one near my flat), it's just getting somewhere convenient for the actual test. :(

Other option for the test is the Nissan Dealer in the same town as my work (they've got a pretty good reputation).

Not sure on kwik fit garage but a trick that always helps ten fold, make sure the truck is spanking clean outside and inside and underneath.

People always judge on first impressions (as long as she's not wrecked underneath obv) :lol

I'm sure you are entitled to a free retest within 10 days too. I would quiz them on the phone with that question rather than ask when your down otherwise it will look like your expecting it to fail..

Good luck.

MOT testers are supposed to give the benefit of the doubt to any items, and pass and advise if poss.

An example being a Yaris in our place today, wiper linkage mount broken. The wipers clear the screen, the blades aren't loose, (the linkage is, very).

Pass and advise, because the mot manual (which is online) doesn't explicitly say it should fail.

If they fail it and you think its unjustified, ask them what RFRs they have used (Reasons for Refusal). If you're still not happy, then go to VOSA - no one likes VOSA turning up...... :)

Independant MOT stations will also usually give you more time to get the retest without recharging you. Well they do with me.

I would avoid Kwik Fit, im 98% sure they will fail a Troll - all they will see is a huge four wheeled pound sign.

THEN AGAIN, is it likely they will mess with you mate??:lol:augie

I wouldn't use Kwik fit, load of Monkeys are far as I'm concerned.
Fit a tyre yes, anything else, NO

I've just seen where you live. This makes interesting reading (hint: look towards the bottom of the graph for Dundee)

Good luck!

Thanks bud  fills me with confidence... :p

Funnily enough it says brakes are the highest fail reason for the "DD" postcode area but in the 10/11 years I've been driving I've never failed an MOT on brakes (shouldn't have said that, sods law there's something up with them when I go in :doh)

Haha cheers Clive though hopefully I won't have to put that to the test! :lol

Think the consensus is a "No" for Kwik Fit MOT's... have found an independent just as near to my work that seems to be well regarded (it's in the Good Garage Scheme for what it's worth) so I've booked it into there. Been trying to find the time to do the fuel filter so may ask them to do that while they're at it (I've got the filter).

My arse will heal over before I ever got to quick quid I mean quickfit probably the most expensive garage around.

Cheap MOTs though... but it looks like there's a reason for that!

Wow, plenty of misinformation flying around in this thread!

Reason for Rejection
10 working days for a re-test
Half of the original test fee may be charged for a re-test

I personally hate testing 4 wheel drives as a 1hr test slot is pushing it due to the increased complexity of the vehicle and therefore more items that must be checked.

If you really want an honest test, just take some yellow MOT chalk and write 'TEST CAR' on the floor pan underneath!

Now i like this :naughty

Which side of Dundee is your Grandfather's farm Barrbeast? Reason I ask is that Muirhead garage is a good bet. Ian's a thoroughly-decent bloke, does good work & doesn't rip his prices. If your at that end he'd be a good bet :thumb2

Just go to the MOT station that gives discount on bribes.(Calm down its only a joke)Or you think,I have heard of a place that lets you do your own M.O.T'S minus emission tests.
Needless to say VOSA have been informed of my suspicions..
