Knocking on back wheel

Next question !! ? When I drive the motor forward there's a slight knock /judder on the back wheel .. Visable if your out side looking at the wheel? Almost like it's not been done up tight .. Any thoughts on what this might be ?? Cheers chaps rob

I hope you are not in four wheel drive on tarmac:doh

Could be rear wheel bearings, jack up and check for wobble.
Could be excess play in universal joints in rear prop shaft, slide under and check.

Please clarify what you mean by visible ie what you see, vs what you hear :nenau Do you mean audible?

Also when jacked up, both rear wheels... ( LSD on rear axle) hand brake off, out of gear, check rotation of the rear wheel, it has been known for some brake linings to separate from the brake shoes.

Could also be the rear drop links on the anti roll bar, check play by sliding under neath, then hand brake off, rock the car side to side, on this check you will probably hear a clunk from the front suspension too :doh. This will most likely be the front drop links on the front ARB... Common fault, these need replacing every 2-3 years, cheap to do, takes half an hour.

Caution...
When I suggest hand brake off, make sure you are on level ground, wheels chocked etc etc...

could be you need to change your LSD oil, when old or incorrect oil the clutch judders instead of being smooth, Rick

Thanks for the replies ill get your comments checked out.. The 'click/clonck noise from the back wheel can also be seen on the back wheel when moving forward slowly from still, as a slight ' judder/stutter?? If that makes sense? And it happens intermitantly.. Cheers rob
