Hello,
I have a Terrano SWB R reg. Last week I became aware of an intermittent clunking from the rear, which seemed to fit in with what had been said on this site about the need to change the LSD oil. I did that , using an LSD 90. The oil that came out was pretty grey and grubby, and the drain plug looked like a hedgehog. The car has 108k mls on and I have had it for 2 yrs, and don't know what changes have been done in the past.
I took it on a run, and the clunk was still there, but not as bad, not on tight turns particularly, more when turning slightly right then left on bends. When I straightened up after a longish right hander , there was a pretty pronounced clunk which shook the car.
When I did the oil change I got slightly more than 3 litres in, before it started coming over the rim. The capacity should be 2.8 ltrs., shouldn't it? Would the overfill cause any problems? Can anyone offer advice please?
Another problem was that I had a lot of trouble finding someone who stocked LS oil. They kept trying to tell me that normal 80 W 90 would be OK,
What do you think?
Regards, John
