Well lads, I have my family in there, i drive the wheels off my truck which is why i went for cooper stt's, they are as good in the wet under high speed braking as the branded road tyres i had on before, you wont be getting that performance from kingpin muds ;)

Each to their own

That's why I have other cars ;O)

I tried that line with the wife...............................I got one of those looks  It's best not mentioned I find :lol
Since I took out the rear seats the kids don't approve either :naughty

I've been using Kingpins since I had my first car in 1988, that's a long time ago so they're obviously doing something right.
I had them on my last terrano and loved them, took them off and sold them to another member on here and he loved them too.
Never read anything about them using inferior casings, never heard anyone complaining about them unless they've been abusing them.
I remember they used to have a really low speed rating, 50mph or something, but not any more.
Had them on my last work van, lasted 50k with no problems. Put a set of dunlops on this van (same type of van) and they're half worn after 10k !

I have never heard of Kingpins using inferior casing either, that sounds to me, like a wonky sales pitch, as in, get a buyer put off and buy the more expensive tyres.

It does seem that the people who have had personal experience of kingpin remolds seem to have good opinions of them.

I also take the point about greater stopping distances on mud tyres.

I am on the verge of going for some Malatesta (remold) AT tyres as they do seem about the best of the bunch when you compare speed rateing, load rating, durability and price.

Just fitted Malatesta retreads to mine . Company I got them from said Malatesta and Fedima have more reinforcing in the side walls than Kingpins and are generally better quality. Not a lot of difference in price

Quick update on these tyres.

After playing around with the pressures on road handling is very good , not a great deal of road noise either. Went laning yesterday ,deep ruts , very wet and spent the whole day in 2wd.

So far very happy

good stuff, mind LSD helps, done same on very mild tyres with both t2 and trol
only using 4wd to get low ratio for inclines and decents.

oh and driver skill....

!

I myself have been using kingpin tyres since about 1982 Found them very good an took a bit of wear The only thing i found with them was in the wet they were crap In the dry stuck like glue They were made very well as i found out in 86 as i worked for them as a tyre inspector in wem nr shrewsbury Shit place to work But there you go It was a job ?

for anyone interested the Malatesta web site is here:

http://www.malatesta.it/

they seem to have more awards than any of the other big re-mold makers, and by comparison I found their tyres had a better load and speed rating combination than Kingpin or Insa and they have rim protections beads like genuine BFG that neither of the others have!

plus! they are slightly cheaper than Insa, though more exspensive than Kingpin.

Which is pretty much what the company I bought them from said.
