Thinking of replacing my Terrano R3mR when money allows and have been looking at the Kia Sorento circa 2004/5/6 models.

Anyone on this site run one it will have to be an Automatic as I don't do gearchanging these days ?

They seem to get good owner reviews and lack of street cred or image is of no importance to me just reliability and affordable running costs.

Was planning to run the R3mR till it fell apart but keeping a 15 year old motor roadworthy is almost as costly as the fuel.

I have not heard many bad reports about them. Saw something about electrical gremlins in the lighting system a bit back but only a couple of reports.

One friend of mine has an 07 reg which he has had from nearly new . Uses it for towing his horsebox for liesure, and a big ifor williams for his gardening business. Loves it, no complaints at all.

Another mate has just swapped one of a similar age for a BMW estate . He had the sorento as a general car and used it abroad to when he had his ski place in france, reckons it was the mutts bits.

Basically if those picky gits have/had and recommend them they cant be bad :thumb2

Think I may have a buyers guide for it from an old copy of 4x4 mag, will try and scan it in and send it to you if it will help.

my cousin bought a new one last year she thinks it is brilliant and the certainly seem to hold their value :thumb2

Kia issues

I'm really glad I have kept my Mav 16 years, this site I found doesn't put the Kia Sorrento in a good light.

Quite a few transmission problems and sheared bolts.

It makes scarry reading looks as though this is the new model, I would be looking at the older one. Where I work at the MB dealership one of the salesman used to sell Kias and he rated them though he was talking 3-4 years back.

When I was looking at them as a serious option I cant recall what the list price was but you get get a very smart trim one for around £16k on the road in the summer of 2007 , they were doing a push on them at several dealers near us. just so's you dont fall for the "this car cost" bullshit :thumb2

Daved, your footnote is out of date old boy :thumbs

Just realised my cousins Kia is a manual gearbox so her experience doesn't count for much :nenau

Sometimes the job takes as long as the time you have available.
It's amazing that if you only have 1/2 that time you would have done it anyway. :nenau

I like the look of the Grand Cherokee as well!

seeing a lot of them on the caravan rally circuit, perhaps becoming the new
terrano2 if thats possible as certainly the pathy hasn't in said areas.

the ones i know all tow 16 -20 foot caravans and seem happy, not been in
in one but look well. 7 seat option i believe too.

on some the tow bracket seems to mount at a strange angle as i recall but
it must be ok, just looks odd to me not vertical but hey might help
departure angle. mind not seen one laning yet maybe too young n posh still.

the long warranties on Kias looks good, got closer friends that had smaller
Kias no issues at all. and other korean exports seem good, LG etc....

reckon Koren stuff is Jap built with lower costs, same quality, may become
the nissan as we all get less impressed with renault step parent.

Well something needs to.....the age of the cheap, robust offroader is fast coming to a close and the Terrano, while cheaper to buy, can never live as long as something like a Landy and is a much bigger PITA to mend much of the time.

Personally I've had enough of 25mpg and suspect both my Terranos are heading for eBay soon.....what to replace them with? Well after getting my investment back from my dear wife once shes got her businesses going, I've no bloody idea.....but suspect it will be a decent saloon with an SJ410 for pissing around offroad....the old T2s have served me well for almost 15 years but with current fuel costs, they are poast their sell-by date unless you only do low local mileage, in which case they wear out three times faster anyway!
