When I got my Maverick it didn't come with a key fob thingy for the central locking, so I wondered if it would have ever had one and if so where I might obtain one? I also noticed that the key has got Nissan written on it so I guess that was replaced at some point and perhaps cheaper at nissan?

I notice there are different frequencies. Any ideas how I work out which one? :nenau

only way I know is to locate the immobiliser behind the dash all my petrol cars that have fob are marked 125KHz, is yours a Mk1 or two, many Mk 1's dont have fob, Rick

It's a MK2 I believe; it's got round headlights.(Still getting to grips with that!). I wasn't sure if it was meant to have one but it's got central locking and a red flashy light on the dash! When I looked on the Ebay link I gathered that it could be either 433 or 418Mhz but none gave a clue as to what year or mark it might be relevant too.

the Khz marked on the box may not be the same as the fob, it could be intermediate etc, and looking at my fobs there are no markings, but if you have round lights then it should work with a fob, Rick

125KHZ is for the NATS immobiliser system, very short range ~200mm
Hence the antenna ring around ign. barrel.

Choice of 2 for the remote locking control, 418 or 433 MHZ.
Reasonable range 10~20 Meters.

All will have NATS, and I suppose some may not have remote locking?:nenau

The question then is how can I find out. Will there be a separate and extra box somewhere for receiving the fob signal and interfacing with the locks? I looked at the manual but it naturally assumes you know which system you have and I don't want to start aimlessly ripping out dash panels! Would a call to Ford help? (or even Nissan). My experiences with the local stealer are that they are 'little help' (polite version!!).

The remote locking is managed by the "Time Control Unit".
Connector B76 for this unit is shown as being under the bonnet on the N/S.
See page EL-278 & 279.
It may have some markings on it???
correction RHD its offside.

125khz is for the immobiliser

i'd have a go at buying the 433mhz one, as my maverick is that. How much are they online, I never use mine and might be willing to sell.

i'm guessing it looks something like this although this one doesn't confirm it's frequency

Gives an idea of price although there are cheaper ones. I'll have a fiddle around and see what I can find.

remote on key versus seperate fob

new t2 came with semi integrated key/remote.

the old t2 had a key with chip for imbolizer and
another fob for open/lock function.

just had a key cut and chipped as a spare and
if alarm is on then alarm fires when open door
with this key, rather like in flat battery in fob mode
then once key is in ignition starts engine and clears
alarm.

wondering if one of the old fashioned remote fobs
would work with this key as a cheaper way than
buying another all in one key.

pity locksmith couldnt supply one and i wanted a
spare right away.
