My MAF has recently been wired up for various tests, and all is well:thumbs

Breeeaaaths like a goodn now and NO oil issues:cool:
So there

Raised air scoop? like a snorkal?

yep extreme did it first, then makeitfit has done it too.

not seen makeitfits in person, but extremes works well...

just cant do if you have air con.. to much in the way

Not sure if it's the same on Terrano's but if you put an aftermarket oiled filter in a Disco. it can quickly screw up the MAF sensors.

As I found out to my cost.

it must have been literally dripping with oil is all I can say. On these kind of filters the norm is a simple spray application every 50,000 miles. Never seen a problem with these TBH.

what happened in your case out of interest?

Hi mr zip, I am sure you will correct me ( or some one will) but........ if you put the cone on the adaptor it will lay just above the manifold and turbo drawing in lots of lovely WARM air. But engines like lovely COOL air hence the intercooler. If the cone was sat in the original filter box it would take cool air from the front wing and on a wet day lovely COOL n DAMP air
then you would really fly... or so I am told. regards bri

So your saying use the old air filter as a heat shield?

Nah, what you want is some super cooled roof scoop air all ramed in nice n cool like:cool:
SSSmooooth:thumbs

Well i'm getting one when i get paid (or next week...) as for the super scoop, i'll have to tackle the door and window tint first!

And a poss gearbox oil change, well all liquid change.

Defo do your oils ASAP if you want to keep it :sly

Thats a big one, just where i live i dont have a drive or garage, but i could do it at my old mans with the trolly jack.

Is there a thred on here about self service? Things like the gearbox and transmission are hard to get to?

just looking at milners:

Am i better going fully synthetic? only a few quid price differance.

Also in the online manual it says to drain all oil, put new stuff in then change oil filter?

I thought you should drain it, then change the oil filter (top it up with new oil first) screw it on, then fill up with new stuff?

hi all
i really dont get it,do these things work or not?
stef

Stef yes they do, absolutely.

Re Bri's comment, two points - firstly you can buy a straight K&N replacement filter for the existing airbox if you are paranoid about anything, but it will never be as efficient as the cone filter because it is still restricted by the airbox pipework.

Its location is irrelevant given that its most needed when you're underway, at which time theres a Force 9 gale blowing under the bonnet, negating any warming effect from the engine.

All I can keep saying, as otheres on here also do, is that it improves performance and mpg (by 2-3mpg) so yes it works and doesn't need any modification, relocation etc.. IF someone is worried about wading then fine, fit a snorkel and another filter type, but as I've also said, by the time your cone filter is underwater theres probably a foot and a half of it in the car as well - work it out for yourself :thumbs

ok
i'm now convinced,i shall be getting one as soon as the t2 is back from the garage
thanks for the advice
stef

Regards the oil changes, I ran up a set of ramps first front and then rear, there is plenty of room under there if you are slim like me! Make sure you can remove the filler plugs before you take out the drain ones for obvious reasons, my filler plugs came out easy but not the drain ones. There is guard over the front diff which you will have to be removed and you can get at the engine filter through the wheel arch.
