If I can add my two pence worth; I fitted a K&N induction kit to my 99 plate 2.7 TDi auto at about 50k miles. Its now done 160k miles with zero problem, in fact fuel consumption improved by about 2mpg in the process (worth having when the auto box returns only about 23 mpg when being soundly thrashed!).

The induction kit provides even better airflow than the K&N replacement filter because it does away with the relatively narrow plastic pipe that sucks air in from the inner wing with the standard setup.

I got all kinds of earache on here at the time about all the water it would swallow, but despite my best efforts to drown it in every way imaginable, I've failed miserably. So after 100k miles I guess I have the expense of oiling the damn thing again! Oh well, only another 900k miles before the warranty runs out eh...lets hope the old Terrano can keep up!

Here's mine

They are a doddle to fit and there is probably a very slight increase in HP but the most noticable thing is how responsive the throttle becomes!!

As to exact HP I couldn't tell you, but their main pages will have something useful I'm sure.

All I can tell you is it definitely gave the 2mpg fuel economy improvement, and since it was an auto box it was easy to assess performance improvement in terms of the lower frequency with which the box had to change down at the same given speed on some regular hilly journeys, so definitely a bit more oomph as well.

And no, despite much advice to the contrary, I didn't disconnect the battery for 24 hours either!

If you want to be picky, you might hear a little bit more air sucking when you give it welly, but other than that its a no-brainer and easy as pie to fit.

And as I say, despite all the scepticism, I've driven through some serious flooding at times with water washing over the bonnet with no effect whatsoever. As I always used to say, its how you drive the thing that counts - as for its height in the engine bay, well the electrics will get drowned before the filter does!

Similarly with criticism about hot air under the bonnet (the standard box gets its air from a constricted pipe into the inner wing) - at normal pace theres a Force 9 gale blowing into the underbonnet area, its only when you stop that the engine bay heats up significantly.

Its the 57i kit you need - JFDI I'd say, it works great for me and has done for 110k miles so far, just about to fit the same to my recently-acquired 02-plater. Good luck!

Yes it is more responsive no doubt about that.
The only issue i have with it at present is the extra Noise it generates.

You get that with all induction kit:augieTBH I love the sound but some don't

Ian just looked on fleabay, and the 57i kit is for the 2.7 tdi, I thought you had a 3.0td.
Or is it still ok on the 3.0?

It is the same Kit.

I will be deciding over the next couple of days if the Noise is to much as i do a lot of Motorway.
If you want to hang on maybe you could get one at a cut down price.

Coming from the world of sports cars into all of this 4X4 stuff I have had dealings with K&N along with Apex'i and HKS. Obviously K&N make a kit designed especially for the T2 but unlike everyone has suggested on here with the T2 kit, my brothers Impreza had its MAF die after the oil destroyed it.

When I was looking to increase air flow and power in my Skyline I looked into all the diferent brands before going with the Apex'i power flow (only as these were best suited to the engine) I still have the standard air box off my Skyline so I will be checking the fitment and if its the same will probably look at another Apex'i for the R3M.

Obviously diesel engines work differently to petrol but the sound I got off the Apex'i was wonderful, nice suction sound on acceleration and on gear change I actually hered the internal (recerc) dump valve. Well worth the £60 I spent on it a couple of years ago.
