Hi guys, just considering replacing my standard air filter for a K&N but whats best the straight replacement or the cone type thing.

I must stress that i don't go swimming in it at all.

Cheers
Stephen

If you're not swimming then go for the cone type induction one as it'll give you a few more horses effectively.:sly

Agreed - the fundamental problem with the existing airbox is physically restricted airflow, so simply replacing the drum filter in there with a K&N part won't make any difference.

The 57i induction kit on the other hand will give you better airflow, a little bit more oomph (don't expect anything too mahoosive but its certainly detectable) but most beneficially, a good 2-3 mpg improvement in fuel economy if you don't change your driving style.

Ergo, it pays for itself really quickly these days.

Can anybody confirm that the induction kit for the 2.7 will fit a 3.0lt?

Cheers,

John.

I don't think it does and in fact I'm not aware there is a fitment for it for some reason....

Hmmm.... Curious

Having seen photos of the air intakes of the 2.7td and comparing them to the air intake arrangement of the 3.0, they look remarkably similar and the fitting kit looks like it should bolt straight on to the MAF assembly?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious (which is highly possible :augie ), but I've read the post 96terrano links to several times and can't seem to see anything that relates to the 3.0?

Apologies if I'm being really stoopid.....

John.

It does bolt straight on to the MAF on the 2.7 but I've no idea why they don't list an adaptor for the 3.0....maybe theres a technical reason not to use the induction kit on that engine?

That thought had crossed my mind too, but my initial concern was that there was a difference between the actual mounting even though the intakes before the MAF looked identical. I think an e-mail direct to K&N might be the next thing step.

Still just tempted to buy one and stick it on to see what happens! If it doesn't work, then I'll be selling a K&N induction kit - barely used!

Now, if anybody knows if there's a mini banjo bolt fuel filter on the 3.0......:augie ??!

Its not something stupid like space to fit is it? I mean they DO list a straight replacement panel filter for the 3.0 airbox, just not the induction kit.

Or maybe there are other air inlets/connections to the air pipe pre-MAF that would be impacted if a 57i was fitted.

be interested to hear what K&N say.....I think Performance Filters are their UK agent if it helps.

Well,

I've just e-mailed Performance Filters (cheers lacroupade :thumb2) to ask why there's no listing for a K&N 57i for the 3.0.

See what happens.....:augie

Ok, so I've just been out and had another proper look around the existing filter assembly and can't see any other sensor attachments or owt upstream of the MAF.

The existing filter housing measures 235mm in length from the MAF housing and the bolt spacings are 92mm between the top two and 51mm between top and bottom ones.

Is there a possibility anyone who has fitted a K&N to their 2.7 have a quick measure and let me know if the bolt spacings are anywhere near and also of the overall length is similar?

Confirmed bolt spacings are 92 and 52 I can't measure the filter box at the mo though your's looks the same just in plastic.
Are you going induction? If so you can bin the filter housing.

The MAF housings are indeed the same, as is the bolt pattern and the air filter lid between the TD and ZD . The MAF elements are NOT the same.

The ZD has the much better flowing plastic airfilter housing which can be retro-fitted to the TD if you dont fancy butchering your own.

ive just fitted a k n filter that fits straight into the air box on my 3.0 ,and thee acceleration and power is very noticeable very pleased.
