Hi guys,
Just renewed for another year - couldn't live without the resource!

Hoping someone can advise or had the same problem.....

Came to use the Terrano on sat to find a puddle of greenish-yellow liquid had completly soaked the carpet in the passenger footwell!

Investigated a bit further and it appears that somewhere behind the dash there's a leak. It's only very very slow now but I suspect it was probably once much greatet to have caused the puddle int he 1st place!

Checked the drivers footwell also and found the carpet underlay to be soaked there aswell.

Any ideas? leak looks about central - I've dismantled mnost of the dash trim last night but still can't see where it's coming from. Suspect either heater matrix or air con conpressor maybe? - What you guys think??

Also, ive checked all the engine resevoirs and they all seem ok - coolant, washer, brake and steering fluids!

Any advice greatfully recieved!

Matt

form the positin of the leak and the coour sounds like heater matrix to me, but some one will be aling who knows more :thumb2 welcome back

matrix def.... check the rad has water in it dont go by the reservoir as that can be full and the rad empty.

if its the matrix . fill it up and put some k seal in its got a 50 50 chance of working

Mine leaks pretty badly on the same side when it rains through where the heater fan is, my carpet is wet a lot from that. so maybe look at that too, but the rain is never green or yellow :nenau

dye from the carpet might make it that colour.... clutching at straws now though

If the coolant colouur is the same as whats on your carpet the heater leak, if not then it will be the flourescent green leak detecting dye used to find Air Con leaks, Rick

cheers guys, looks like I was heading in the right direction. I had already put a drop of food colouring in washer bottle (red) and coolant (blue) and haven't seen any red or blue come through so I'm feeling pretty confident it's not that.

Think my 1st job is to get some of that stuff you put in the heater matrix, gotta be worth a shot if it has a 50% chance of working!!

cheers for all the advice - I'll update again!

If you put Blue in the coolant and you have green on the carpet??????????????????????????????????????????????????:nenau:nenau:nenau

Think it's sorted!

well I think it's sorted!

When I checked the rad it was far from full, (amazingly the car had never overheated). I think there was the most almighty airlock in the system because even after running the engine up to temp no more of the coolant was leaking out. I suspect the additional pressure caused by the airlock had driven out all the fluid in that section of the coolant system.

filled the rad, dropped in some rad-weld for good measure, ran it up to temp, pumped the pipes a bit to try and encourage any airlocks out and so far so good! no leaks. Heater matrix is warm and warm air coming through the vents so I can only assume the coolant system is working as it should!

Cheers for all the advice guys. I love this forum1:D:D

Steve, easy to fix this one, remove the wiper arms, remove the trim panel, there is a panel screwed down that is over the heater motor, the bottom screw nearest the nearside wing lets water through.
Remove the panel and reseal pay attention to that screw.
30 min job.... after you have removed the wipers.:doh

I made a simple tool, looks like a G clamp, fork at the bottom to go under the arm, then a 6mm bolt through the top to press on the shaft.
I used a section of the galvanised hold down roof straps (wickes) put 2 90 degree bends in it.
