Hi Just put un leaded in 12 quid top up with 30 quid diesel any thorghts will it be ok or rough

Brian Oh Crap

2 Gallons making a full tank of diesel will not be too bad, it will probably smoke a bit (whiteish) I would run it light load till you can another 3 to 4 gallons derv in, remember petrol kills lubrication, having said that years ago on the trucks we would put some petrol in to stop waxing in winter but I am talking couple gallons into 80 gallon tank, Rick

As an after thought if it is a 3 Ltr then drain the tank and do not risk it, Rick

Thanks

Its a 2.7 I Put £30 pound on top drove 2 mile and did think i should have not drove but last time my wife did in a 206 pug garage man said just should have filled with diesel But when you look on line all diesel fix companys say DONT DRIVE FIX AT ROAD SIDE

No Drain on Tank ? my garage closed so might get RAC to take me monday morning not sure i like driving,,,2 miles might have just emptyed fillter lol spoilt my weekend
Brian

Not sure what to do

A Mate said fill to the Neck keep topping up is this ok or should I spend £ 50 on draining at garage

Brian

I would not risk it -get it drained etc

On a modern diesel you will wreck the pumps & probably the engine too especially common rail injection with two stage pumps.

Personally I would not risk it even on an older vehicle, bite the bullet, tank drain, new filter. You might be covered on your breakdown insurance if you have it.

spoke with several people

just been to see my garage he said it will be ok just top when you can every Time tank gauge on quater He said diesel Taxi car drivers put in to clean did not do for that reason and still feel stupid.

Its running and starting fine for now my life as been crap for 10 months so need some luck

Brian

Sounds like a plan then, think I’d just keep topping up as soon as needle moves. Wonder if veggie oil would be a good idea at this point?

Sorry to hear about hard times but I’m sure this time you’ve got off pretty lightly.
Hope life is settling down for you.

Thanks

Brain, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :(

I was going to ask why you had put that much in the tank but after reading further I suspect that it was an accident?

I once ran my Maverick empty and had to coast into the hard shoulder a few hundred yards from the junction i was coming off at. I remember emptying a petrol generator full of petrol and 2 stroke into the tank via a funnel and it got me home

I wouldn't worry about it too much, just try not to do it too often :thumb2

First time my wife did years ago

We were out my wife went to pay I was only putting £20 in my daughter sat in the 7 seats because my granddaughter was in the boot when she said is it a petrol oh my god on £12 so stopped filled up to full with diesel because i was told years ago to do this then you think was that right.

3 Years ago I stupidly topped-up my 3L's tank with 30L of petrol (ratio of 30 to 80). I ran the car 12M back to campsite then next day went to local Asda & put 1L of 2 stroke oil & managed to dribble in another 12L of diesel.
The car started & ran perfectly until we went shopping the day after that, 10 miles away. After 3 hours standing it would not start at all!

Called out Green Flag to drain fuel & refill with 10L diesel: started within 5 seconds & has run perfectly ever since. I think having continuously been using 2 stroke oil at 5% mix probably saved the day.

BTW: Mechanic from Green Flag said it wouldn't start as petrol vaporises so reducing necessary compression for the diesel to ignite, but couldn't understand why it had run perfectly up till then.
Fingers crossed it will carry on regardless LOL. Dread to think what would have happened on a more recent vehical.

feels ok so far

£12 un leaded then £63 diesel on top I have ran for a week so put £15 diesel yesterday going for a drive sunday might use Half tank another top up should help sounds ok, on some days it sounds sweet and other days rough but that before un leaded wife says just turn music up
