Hello folks,

I've long been a member of the vegetable oil Diesel Forums and have now bought myself a Terrano II to run on the stuff. It's a bit scruffy and the electricals have all been hacked about, but it runs and is a good vehicle to play with.

Had some fun when picking it up as the fuel filter must have been full of water, limped home from Penzance to Bristol.

I've now done the Air and fuel filters, Glow plugs and will be doing an oil change this weekend. I'm not an experienced mechanic, but I enjoy learning as I go and will give anything a try.

Quite enjoying finding my way around this thing, but might have a few questions as I go.

Welcome to the group.

Currently running my mav on svo with 10% petrol. Runs a dream, All I have done is put a different fuel filter on. Starts perfectly and runs without any lumpyness.

Who gave you the guide to do the plugs :augie ;)

The Salomon model has tinted glass in the rear, aircon, electric window, electric Mirrors and a leather interior. Not sure whether that differs from other models.

It's supposed to be black over silver. Clearly the last owner had a few salvaged parts including the offside headlight surround and grill. Maybe I'll replace these, or spray them, although the mongrel look's quite funky.

Indeed Banshee suggested I join here and passed me the PDF for the glow plug change, a very good guide it is too I might add. I think I actually joined here a while ago, then forgot all about it until buying the car.

sp00k, I live in South Bristol, just up from Ashton Gate, so certainly nearby

Zippy656, I used to live in Devizes from 6-19 until I went to Uni, don't go back there much these days though.

Spent a couple of hours this evening trying to get the reverse lights working. The previous owner fitted two worklights to the rear via a switch on the dash. For some reason the reverse light doesn't work. I've taken the local loom out and repaired it (to a degree, might just make a new one.) All the connections there seem fine, so there must be something wrong elsewhere with that one light circuit. Will give me something to do at the weekend too.
The work lights are a bit naff, plus they're on a permanent live, so if I forget the switch they will drain the battery when I leave the car. Might just scrap them, or keep them somewhere until I fit a roof rack and have them on the back of that instead.

Hmmm... I have the SE touring... guess what, Tinted glass, Aircon, Electric windows, Electric (Heated) Mirrors, and leather interior... Only thing I have extra, is the sunroof..

I wondered if the Antilock brakes, and Airbags are different on various models, as I was amazed at how many don't have Anti lock brakes, in the SWB.

Think some of the SWB Mavericks got the anti lock brakes & maybe only the top of the range SE+ Terrano's SWB got anti lock brakes but all of the S & SE models i've seen have had full locking tyre screaming brakes:lol TBH I don't like anti locking brakes but thank god Nissan never fitted traction control to the R20 as that's the work of the devil:banghead:

I had a problem with the reverse light, check the connection [plug] on the gearbox, I took it apart [unplugged it] and pushed it back together again, worked ever since, crap on the contacts I guess

Thanks, will have a look. Given the contacts and wires in the light loom are all fine I figured there much be a fault in a switch or wire further up, just not sure where everything is yet.
I've got the workshop info so will take a look.

Well, I've taken the reverse light connector apart on the gearbox, cleaned it with contacts cleaner and put it back together, but still nothing. I think I'll need to get the multimeter out and have a proper prod when I find the time.
Not able to get a decent radio signal either. It looks like most have similar issues with the aerial. I was going to change my headunit for a new one anyway, so that might work. I also have some decent shielded coaxial cable, I wonder if replacing the cable to reduce signal look might help. Or buy a signal amplifier.
