Yesterday started the T2 up & moved it off the drive so the Son could work on his car & then parked it back on the drive when he was finished, well tonight I jump into the truck trun the key & it didn't fire up:eek: tried again giving the glow plugs a good chance to warm up & it turned over slower & on the 3rd try it turned very slowly then stopped:doh Tried to jump start it off the Son's 1.3L accent but no joy as there didn't seem to be enough charge going in. I had the ignition switch replaced before I bought it as it was iffy & by the looks of it the starter motor is new as it's still nice & shiney. I checked the charging rate the other week & it was 14.3V so could it be just a dodgy battery:confused:

Dark and rain, sound like a light wait, lol

Can be hard to see even in day light... was with mine, broke underneth not like the pic. So take your time.

Fingers crossed

Battery is just about dead after trying to start it & all I heard was the door lock motors trying to lock/unlock when the key went back to position II. Don't have a battery charger so will have to see if my mate can try & give me a jump start off his works van:augie

what about the dash lights, do they dim when you try to start the car?

it probably IS the battery, if the battery isn't new, because these engine require a massive crank amps to get started - so if its weak then any recent runs wont have helped much charging it...

Just checked the battery clamp & it looks fine by torch light (i'm soaked) The dash lights really dim Clivvy when trying to start, one thing I did notice it the battery is only a 65Ah job & i'm sure my last T2's battery was 90 or 110Ah

agreed, battery isn't strong enough. I think mine 110Ah or thereabouts. If the lights are dim, then I think its the battery mate - slap a nice heavy duty one in there!

I like these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Varta-Nissan-Terrano-Diesel-Heavy-Duty-Car-Battery-NEW-/230557764991

Well got a new battery this afternoon & first flick of the key it burst into life:thumb2 cleaned the battery tray & all around it & added some copper grease to the battery clamp bolts so I know they'll come out easily again:D

I'm sure this is the one I've got, nice bunch in there, they are local to me so I always turn up at the warehouse

The battery is classed as a "Marine Battery" by Lucas and is actually measured in MCA (Marine Cranking Amps) rather than CCA

The figure listed on the website of 1000CCA must be a calculated conversion as the battery is labelled 880MCA I think

Also don't listen to any tosh about Marine Batteries not having enough juice to turn these blocks over from cold.

The XV Supreme series have nothing but solid reviews, I've been running mine now for 8 months and it's been incredible

3 years warranty with BatteryBay as well so keep your reciept :)

OK so what is different about Marine batteries and how do they work differently are they Gel type or something I am always interested in alternative developments ?

I fitted an AGM (Advanced Glass Mat technology) type battery to my SL last year as I could get one on the nett when they were on offer in the summer at the same price as Genuine Mercedes Battery from work at trade !
My previous battery lasted 10 years it was a lead acid one fitted on purchase of vehicle by the garage and was one manufactured by a firm local to the garage in Waltham Cross area.

I'm no expert but from the research I did, Marine batteries are "Deep Cycle" batteries, this means that they can be discharged down to 20% of their capacity without wear on them wheras if you did this on a standard car battery it would rapidly damage the battery and it would eventually give up

The XV Supreme is supposed to be a bit of a hybrid, it offers both the surge of amps required to turn the car over whilst also being able to take the draim from all your toys (12v appliances in the cab, spotlights, winches) without wear to the battery decreasing the lifespan

I believe the lead plates in these battries are significantly thicker
