I known a couple of dealerships that have problems recruiting people to do body and interior repairs and I'm sure you would have adaptable skills :thumb2

Furniture repair/restoration. Growing market in doing up old brown furniture, respray/paint/lacquer. Also new doors, handles on existing kitchens. Stick with your current skills, work from home or customers' place. Keep your overheads small, make sure no tools are left behind in current workplace, boss may sell off cheap or even free if premises are closing down completely. Begin with friends or family if possible.

my bit of advice is don`t rush into anything take time to think about what you are going to do at the end of the day its not the end of the world
i too was made redundant in oct 09 never been out of work since leaving school i am 46 now was with the last company Cemex for 15 years as a plant manager of two asphalt plants. I looked around for work as my missis was on maternity leave with our youngest but i could not find anything that interested me so we did a role reversal and i took on the duties of house husband and she went back to work i have loved every minute of it were expecting a new addition in september so its time for a swap around again
As said its not the end of the world

Spiderpig37 is right, I was made redundant a few years back, along with three other guys - one of them found a job during the consultation period and lost all his compensation - it may be that your current employer will agree to pay compensation even if you do not see the job out to the bitter end, but they are under no obligation to do so, and it would be entirely at their discretion - might be an idea to bring the subject up with their HR department, or whoever is dealing with the redundancies.
