The remote locking on my Jeep has days where it does not want to work.
Both remote units have the same issue, have tried new batteries but makes no difference.
It does not appear to be a button related issue.
Today it would not unlock even with the fob near the front doors. In the end I used the key.
When I got home it worked fine with both keys.
I have put it down to the strong wind blowing the signal from the fob unit.lol

Any current of former Jeep WJ owners any ideas where to start ?

My old V70 used to be a real pain in the morning if there was a heavy dew on the car, I would have to walk right up to the passenger side A piller to get it to work. When it was dry I could blip it from the otherside of a car park.. what was weird though, it was only like it in the morning, and things like heavy rain had no ill effect. Never got to the bottom of it though.

Batteries not as good as I thought !

Just had the batteries out of one of the remote fobs - they have two CR 2016 coin cells.
One read 2.84 the other was similar that makes a total of 5.68 that might not help !
Just ordered some Duracell replacements.

They were replaced about 11 months ago but it is an old type clicker so they might be power hungry.

I still blame the windy weather blowing the signal away from the vehicle !

I have a similar problem, with the electricity leaking away to one of the lamps in the lounge. ....the wire does not store enough.....:nenau

Seriously though.....I have noticed inconsistent performance of the remote fob for my T2. Even with a new quality battery, works at differing ranges arbitrarily. ....?

Infra Red & Radio Types

I have been spoilt with driving newish Mercs they have a dual operation when you click lock or unlock. One sends an Infra Red signal that works best near the receiver built into the drivers door handle at the same time the Radio Signal also operates at quite substantial distances. When the batteries start to get low just the Infra Red part works so you know when you need to change the batteries.

Pretty sure the Jeep is Infra Red only so range will be limited to around 10-15 feet depending on strength of signal and distance will vary with air density.

That's interesting, so can anyone let us know where the receiver unit is in T2's, or does it depend on the model and year.......mine is a 02 3.0 SVE........:nenau

It is in the Time Control Unit, this is mounted immediately above the interior fuse panel.
