I have looked under the front and rear of the Terrano and can see the potential for fitting LR Jate Rings to give a very solid recovery point.
Has anyone fitted them to a Terrano?
Any advice you can offer please?

The T2 has fairly decent recovery points as standard, on the rear two tow rings on each chassis rail, at the front one "pig tail" hook, but this can be doubled up - the holes are in the other chassis rail to fit another one.

I suppsoe the issue with JATE rings are that LR's are desigend to run with these, whereas a T2 chassis isn't - I always though JATE fitted through holes in the chassis rails?

I also seem to recall reading on a 4x4 forum that some JATE rings are built more for tie downs rather than recovery?

I thought that the pigtail hook was a tiedown point and not suitable for recovery. After saying this I have used it when being towed out of some very deep muddy ruts.

I'm sure i'd seen predrilled holes in the chassis rails. I'll have to double check.

There seems to be an awful lot of LR's fitted with them and using them for heavy recovery.

I think the rear set up is fine & seems strong enough from what i've used of the recovery points  I used a die grinder on mine to make the hole a little bit bigger so I could get my 4&3/4T shackels to fit

Nah, the pig tail is the recovery point, there are some small tie down lopps at the front that are just that, but the pigtail has decent hi-ten bolts securing it. As far as the chassis holes, don't know what the LR chassis is like, but its whether the holes in a T2 chassis would cope with the same loads if they're not desigend or tested for that purpose. I'd be happy sticking with the manufacturers points.

Could probably do the same then.
I got some huge 6.75t shackles but the pin is too big.

Good news that, thanks.

That was my prob, I had to remove about 1.5mm but the pins fit nice & snug now

Just About Tough Enough

Aren't the rear tow eye's removed to fit the tow bar (if fitted) :?:

Jim T

i believe not JT, having viewed dinky's truck recently, he like hb
removes towbar for off road work which reveals the eyes.

further think eyes on my old rangey were tie down only and/or
removed when bar fitted.

presume jates, if military design are for lifting and tie'ing down
as well as recovery, perhaps like those rings seen on many
commercial trailers.

Well I had a good look at the front and rear recovery points today and they are solid as a rock.

I was going to buy another front hook but instead i've brrn able to open up the standard recovery point enough to put my big shackle pin through it.

Jobs a good un.

Also took the opportunity to cut down the front bumper thus giving better and easier access to the recovery points.
