I suppsoe the issue with JATE rings are that LR's are desigend to run with these, whereas a T2 chassis isn't - I always though JATE fitted through holes in the chassis rails?
I also seem to recall reading on a 4x4 forum that some JATE rings are built more for tie downs rather than recovery?

I thought that the pigtail hook was a tiedown point and not suitable for recovery. After saying this I have used it when being towed out of some very deep muddy ruts.

I'm sure i'd seen predrilled holes in the chassis rails. I'll have to double check.

There seems to be an awful lot of LR's fitted with them and using them for heavy recovery.

Nah, the pig tail is the recovery point, there are some small tie down lopps at the front that are just that, but the pigtail has decent hi-ten bolts securing it

I got some huge 6.75t shackles but the pin is too big.
