Recently bought a Maverick 2.7 td 1994 which had been stood and infrequently used over the last 6 months. Bought it in a flat area but where I live is very hilly and now noticed clutch slip.
Have been informed by the vendor that that had not been a known fault and that the cause may be the bearing through lack of use. The pedal is not at the top
Is this a possible cause, or is it likely a new clutch is needed? Mileage 185000.
If so, anyone any ideas of cost? Clutch is available on ebay for £120, but no idea of reasonable fitting cost.
Would need a reliable garage in Huddersfield or Oldham areas.
Help needed!

If it's an original clutch then it's done well hasn't it. I've never done one and wouldn't tackle it my self but the garage I bought mine from did mine under warranty. I'm guessing they'll charge a lot of money to fit it as it's a gearbox out job as far as I'm aware. Also I don't think you can adjust them either on these motors. Is it def the clutch or could it be master or slave cylinders? also there is an extra bit of pipe called a damper that causes problems. Sorry can't help with a garage tho.

Hi,
not a job for the faint hearted im afraid.:( Nissan alone allow 7 hours for the job.,
would say with the amount of miles covered that definitely needs a new clutch. I had same problem 12 months ago+, had a look at it with a view to doin it myself but the sheer weight of the gearbox alone was enough to put me off. Had it done by a clutch fitting specialist local to me in the Midlands. Cost £300. surely there has to be a similar place local to you, that can do the job.
hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for that guys. Bit confused as local garage quoting £500 plus but Mr Clutch £320 but very dubious consumer reviews about them, always saying flywheel needs skimming etc.
Does any one know of a reliable garage in my area or not too far away?
Clutch itself seems about £150 or so and with 7 hrs work at about £35 an hour total seems about £400 to me.

I'd have Mr Clutch do it but stipulate before hand not to do any extra work, like skimming, without consulting you first.
Also remember they're getting the materials a lot cheaper than you can buy them, usualy:thumbs
I had my Focus clutch done with a Mr Clutch type garage and they were loads cheaper than my local do everything garage.
Goodluck:cool:

i have known a few t2's have the clutch changed, and never come across a flywheel needing skimming! has anyone else any idea on the probability of extra work needing to be done?

If using Mr C look on their web site for offers. Just had MOT done by them £26.00 inc free retest. However that bit was not needed :thumbs

Will do - but am worried about their reviews of shoddy workmanship etc. I would like to use 4x4 specialist if feasible but can't find anybody local.
Am beginning to thing I should have bought a Frontero or Pajero instead as local garages give silly prices as they obviously don't want the job!

WELL FINALLY FOUND SOME ONE LOCAL WHO WILL FIT ONE FOR £390 INC VAT SUPPLYIND A JAPANESE CLUTCH (SOUNDED LIKE ADT? or is that an alarm company!!!)
Hoping for the best and thanks to all who replied.

Took vehicle in at about 8.15 and was ready 2.30. Charged 6 hrs labour. Total
