I've just had a look around the tyres (265/70 R17) on my Patrol and the fronts are looking decidedly worse for wear - small tears and cuts on sidewalls. The rears are down to about 4mm tread in the middle. It's MOT time soon, so maybe I need to think about getting some new ones.

The tyres on the 'Troll are General Grabber AT2. They are now nearly £150 a corner (I paid £106 three years ago). Toyo Open Country All Terrains are a bit cheaper at about £117, but I know nothing about those.

Have you folks got any ideas about which all terrain tyres are the best bet? Are Toyos any good? Should I go for Grabber AT2 again? Cooper Discoverer ATR (about £130 each)?? BFG A/T KO at £196 a corner (How much????) ........

Cheers
Andrew

Wrangler HP tend to be good all round. Decent grip and road ride with M&S capability :thumb2

Stocked all over the place so you may be able to haggle a decent deal :nenau

think at2 again,

shop around

have you tried black circles, even if dont list them
ring up as got me pair of maxxis, as a cheap fix
til get next grabbers.

John Cradock seem to have some good try deals on their web site. I would go for the same again if you were happy with them Grabber AT2's then you can keep the best one of your old set for the spare wheel :thumb2

Maxxis Bravos/Mudders/Trepadors - they are from 60-90 a corner, last and grip as well as BFG's, in fact better in the wet!

Tried and tested! Great for road, rock, mud.

At2 if you can get them Grabber have changed tread and now just called at. You should have a look at new tread i was going to get set but after speaking to my mate who has them on estate vehicle i changed my mind as he uses them off road a lot and said new tread s***e off road .My local tyre fitter managed to get me at2 an i b happy bunny.

I'm pretty sure that I'm going for General Grabber AT2 again. (I think the AT is an older version with a different tread pattern). Its just a matter of finding out where I can get them cheapest.

At BlackCircles, fitted, 265/70 R17 AT2s are £145.39 each. I bought them from A-C Tyres in Oldham last time, coz they were a couple of quid cheaper than Blackcircles.

Does anyone run Toyo Open Country All Terrains?

I was under the same impression, i remember the old AT's weren't too clever, didn't we have this debate a couple or three years ago?

Check the US General Tire site. Thats an offroad racing tyre actually just called the Grabber. The AT2 still sits large in their portfolio and I'd be really surprised to see it discontinued.

Stop flapping :)
