My 05 has 2, I fitted 2 new snail types off ebay, in place of the gay ones, soooo much louder. Manly horns for a manly truck with manly steps :lol

Which ones you got mate? You got a link?

If it's good enough for you it's good enough for me :thumb2

Sorry mate, it's been a few years since I bought mine, so can't say the exact seller I got it from, but these are the sort that I have and they are very loud

Did the standard wiring cope ok & did you have to power them via a relay ? just wondering if my single horn wiring would cope powering 2 horns like this:confused:

I might go for one of the truck style horns with two fluted pipes. I want people to know when they've annoyed me, from miles away.

The proper truck horns run off the compressor for the air brakes, so need a lot pressure to drive them, which the normal air horn rotary compressor can not provide. So to fit them, you need a 12volt compressor, and air storage tank. The price for one of those with all the control gear ends up being around £200 plus.

Well, mine had 2 horns and I just changed them over with my new ones, I haven't had any problems with the wiring, but then I don't keep my hand on the horn for long.

Likewise - and as Firebobby says, you don't keep your hand on the horn so current pull is minimal (and they are LOUD!)

I'll have a look if mine has two tomorrow as I have brought the red snail type off ebay and they sound pants as well?

I had a Nissan Largo some years back and I was working on it when my neighbour sauntered over and asked what the extra big horm was infront of my rad. I had no idea but it wasn't connected at it was a good 7 inches across so I connected it.

DAMN!!!!!!!!!! it could shred the skin off a donkey at 200 yards, no idea what it was off but wish I'd kept it lol.:)

Don't know what your after then as I find the snail type on mine are bloody loud and don't have any issues making others aware of my presence.

No dont get me wrong they sound fine when connected directly to the battery its when I connect them to the built in relay they sound poo - its obviously a wiring issue but ive tested the wiring and its stating its fine so Im at a loss?

Horn and wiring to battery easy, but how does that link to the steering wheel? :nenau

You use a relay & take the switch on feed wire from the positive wire to the old factory horn:thumbs so when you press the horn button on the steering wheel power go's to the relay which activates the power to your new horn:augie think that's the simplest way I can put it:rolleyes:

Alex - a relay is just a switch to connect power direct from the battery to something.

Four terminals on the relay, earth, power from the battery and then out to whatever, then the trigger from say the horn. Then just makes the relay connect the battery power... Does that make sense ?

Urm... Yes :augie

Realay is designed to engage high current draw devices safley without the need to run high current through the actual on/ off switch.

sorry if I seem dumb - but surely the existing horn runs off a relay which gives me my 12 volts output so if I installed an extra relay that was triggered via this output I wouldn't get any more "juice" to my horns (something sounds vaguely rude there)

difference between voltage supplied , and current available

Where did you mount yours? I pit mine behind the front grille side by side and piggybacked off the existing bolt holes that attach the bumper to the chassis :sly
