is making bio diesel at home dead ?

as the title says, is it ?. there are loads of muppets on ebay trying to sell wvo for anything up to 80 pence pl iv been running our T2 on almost 98% svo bought at our local cash n carry for about 80 pence pl so clearly its not worth buying old and processing the stuff.

im sure there are some on here who have a good regular supply of cheap if not free wvo and other bio diesel sites all seem to say the same thing.

I use 95% wvo which I get for free. I use to process my own bio but not worth the hassle tbh.
You are right the price of wvo is ridicous but if people are selling it for that price just means there are plenty of muppets prepared to pay those prices

What do you do to the wvo then ? Heat and drain off water ? Then filter ? And what's the other 5% ?

Making bio is hard work.
Paying £100 to fill the car soon focusses the mind and efforts though to make it:thumb2

There is still free oil to be had and some cheap oil around (i.e. 10p-20p pl) BUT
you have to do the legwork to find it and provide good service to your suppliers to keep it.

If I could not make my fuel for 25ppl i would not be able to run a t2.

I was making my own bio for a good while, i built a processor on the basis of a good regular free supply i had.
Unfortunately that supply has ceased and i havent made any for a while.

The price of wvo is silly and has been for a good while, if you can get it at a good price or even free then it should be used.....

Yeah heat remove water let cool then filter the other 5% is petrol at the moment due to the cold weather but during the summer I generally run 100%

Which cash and carry is selling for that price?

I get some of my fuel from WVO that I collect for free, not enough to keep me tank filled each week, but as Tesco says on the side of the trucks delivering my SVO, "every little helps".

I get quality rape seed oil from the chinky supermarket next to stoke city footy ground for £21.50 for 20 ltr, so £1.07 per ltr

Tesco's been 2 x 5L veg oil for £10 for a while now, £1 per litre and clubcard points. 5l container is much easier to pick up and pour too. get it delivered with the shopping, saves any issues getting it on the shelf.

Add 5% petrol when its cold but over about 10 degrees use it neat

What about getting say old chip shop/chines takeaway fat ect ? just filter it and pour it in the fuel tank and add 5% petrol when it's cold ?

And if I was to use some diesel and some oil, would I still need to add petrol ?

i agree i dont know why people mess about with reclaimed i have been running on veg on and off for 10 years. just depending if the price was ok i have just sold my old terrano after six years and it still ran great at 180k,and just started running my 02 terrano on it they seem to love it usually run on a 50/50 mix,And i am toying with the idea of useing a heat exchanger of a combination boiler to maybe run on a higher mix,:bow
