Hi having sold the SWB Mav have found a cracking S regd terrano, but and this might be a big But. Engine light is on and is running rough seems to be overfuelling or something I'm deffinately no expert! Firstly is it likely to be fuel pump? and what does fly by wire actually mean? have seen it loads of times on here but never asked before, but speaking to the old chap selling it he said if it is the fuel pump its a fly by wire one! What else could it be worst case scenario / expense. Help appreciated.

Piece of string really mate
Best thing to do is get the error codes of it. You can down load ECU talk and buy a reader off fleabay for about 20 quid.
If the engine light is on it's unlikely to be pump but could be dozens of other things. MAF, No.1 injector sensor, CKP, throttle etc etc
How cheap is it?:naughty

its a cheap £600 in very good condition accept its not driveable..lol, Taxed and MOT'd for 6 months. I have a budget of £800 all told to get a LWB thats a decent runner. Bit hopeful maybe? Can you read the codes as per download with paperclip or is this just some of the codes?
Cheers Rich..

Yep that'll do it and the only way of really getting an idea of it's ills. Wont it run at all? :nenau

yes it will start but is very erratic and engine light is on

def sounds like the cranksensor or no.1 injector to me both will set u back £120+vat for injector or £102 +vat for cranksensor if u no where the plugs r for both sensors u could ask to disconnect them and with muilt meter read their restiance injector i think should be Approximately 105 ohms @ 25 deg c error code is either 0906 or 0304 if no reading i.e open circuit thats need replacing cranksensor i cant remember the reading think its Approximately 900 ohms @ 25 deg c error code is 0407 its in the ec manual:thumb2

Well I have bought it for the right money I think, so being delivered tomorrow evening, Have 4 days off from tomorrow aswell so may be asking a lot of questions on here..lol.
Heres hoping it can be sorted pretty quick.

Truck has arrived! Only code is 18 repeating over and over so guessing code 18 is problem. Ideas please! Rich..

Hi could someone please point me in the direction of this please
"Download the manual and look at file called ec page 327ish"
Just a link to the manual will be great.
Cheers Rich

DTC code 18 is listed as:
Fuel quantity adjuster/position sensor - malfunction

Possible causes:
Wiring, supply voltage, fuel quantity adjuster/position sensor, ECM, fuel injection pump

Something worth checking:
I believe these injection pumps have a pressure control valve on the return supply to the tank.
This control valve is made from a spring and ball bearing arrangement, if the spring becomes weak or the valve not sealing due to debris etc, then the return fuel rate to the tank will be far to high. Thus the internal fuel pressure within the IP body will be to low for the fuel position adjuster to operate.

Cant give any more info at minute as battery is fooked, got a feeling the CCA of 680 isnt enough for these trucks, reckon the chap who I bought it of must have flattened the original and chucked this one on to try and resolve issues, and not bothered putting proper rated one back on!! Need to hear what its doing to try and guage a better idea of whats happening and why she wont run!! Need to find a battery now what are the correct values for these trucks?
Cheers Rich
