intermittent blip

Intermittent faults are hard to fined but I am hoping someone may have an idea as to what is causing mine. so here is what is happening.
It has happened twice now, both times having just got on the motor way so not after a long run. both times around 65-70mph
It was raining both times, but it has been raining here for two weeks and is only happened twice.
What happens is the power just dies for a fraction of a second and the comes back causing a jerking but as it is so quick its hard to tel if it is an engine problem, a problem with the auto transmission or a fuel problem.
Any thoughts ?

Fuel / water vapour ratio ?

I would go with a mini blip in the fuel supply/ pressure.

Not sure if it affects Diesels but back in the day it would happen sometime with my fuel injected petrol engines covering different makes of injection systems - I put it down to the effect of lots of water vapour in the system affecting the burn process / thermal efficiency.

This is just anecdotal if its anything serious it usually get worse and more regular with time.

My old truck did that in heavy rain a few years ago and didn’t happen again. A while after my crankshaft position sensor went so I put it down to the beginnings of that.

Worth checking the codes, as not all codes cause the MIL to come on.

I had similar on mine, and like you, it seemed to do it when it was raining. When I checked, there were many codes in there, all reporting end of the world problems, but looking on here for the codes, the common denominator was fuel supply or air/water in the fuel issues.

Sure enough, as time went on, it got worse, and then one day, it did it a few times, then the car went into limp mode. Switched it off and back on again, and it carried on OK for a while, before going back into limp mode... I got it home, and waited for the rain to stop, to check things over, but apart from a load of odd codes, I could not find anything physically wrong.

I checked all sorts over the coming weeks, but it was always fine until the next lot of rain, and it would go into limp mode again. After about the third or forth time, my Wife was starting to threaten the car with being scrapped and used as spares for hers.

The final time came when again on a wet night, we were on our way to a SE4x4R shout, and it died again. This resulted in the Landrover owners giving me a hard time, and my wife having to get a taxi home, to get her car to tow me back....

While I was left alone in a dark lay-by, in the middle of nowhere, I noticed a small rainbow in the torch light, just in front of the rear off side wheel, and upon looking under the car, could make out a small weep from the fuel pipe. To this day, I still can't work out what "Rain" had to do with it, but fixing the pipe, cured the problems, and no more error codes either.

If that pipe was the suction line Clive then it could perhaps have been sucking water? but maybe in mist form so confusing the system, only an idea to join it with only happens when raining, Rick

The weird thing is, my T2, is the one that still has the water sensor and drain on the Fuel filter, and there was never any water in there, but I think you are right.

I was going to suggest check drain on fuel filter, but wouldnt be rain related.:nenau

Get the fuel filter swapped ad the new one primed up right and give that a go. Failing that get those fuel lines checked :thumbs
