twice now in just over a week has the orange engine light come on, but cleared
when engine restarted.
the book says can mean either water in the fuel filter or another issue like needing
a code or plug in...

its being serviced at a non nissan garage tomorrow, asked for fuel filter to be done
is this the most likely cause or how would i determine if means something else?

this morning when it came on it appears to falter in a junction, tbh felt like was
in a higher gear ie 3rd not first but then recovered and seemed to run as normal.

thanks

id wait and see if the service and new filter fixes it

mine comes on regular when on diesel that's water

with svo in it it dont take much water in.... god knows why

Not sure if your Troll has the same warning system as my TII but when I was first experimenting with SVO I got the same symptoms & warning. It was fuel filter can only guess it was due to the thicker oil. Change of filter which was due anyway (got a genuine Nissan one heavily discounted) and the oil thinned due to the temp going above zero...........problem solved :thumb2

Plug in

yes, the orange engine shaped lamp near glow plug indicator.

Get it plugged in at a Nissan or similar to find the definite problem.
Mine once showed up as being turbo boost & the MAF. But that was because of the chip I had just installed.
Dozens of possibilities from minor to major.

been serviced today, they saw it but it cleared so think was water in
fuel filter option, though said could plug in if occurred again.

i imagine if was plug in error would stay on and not clear itself on restarting
engine.

It sounds very like the problem i was having, turned out to be the accelerator position sensor. The pedal is not reading your boot correctly. There a micro switch on the pedal that gets full of gunk, if you take off the pedal you can give it a good clean with contact cleaner or wd 40. That should help if not u need a replacement pedal ( it all comes as one unit) nissan quoted me close on €1000 for part and fitting! mine came up as a fault code after 2 visits to my local rip off merchants. But mine was getting gradually worse. I just cleaned mine and it seems to have cured the problem. There is a few threads about it on here somwhere, search for position sensor. Hope this helps

might explain why the breakers seem to charge £100 for the little blighters on ebay!

I disconnected the MAF to test if it was working ok or not. At a junction it was as you described, like in 3rd gear, but gave it welly and pulled away ok. Also engine warning light was on. reconnected MAF and all ok again - so guess I've not got a problem with the MAF.

Still feels low on power through the range, always changing down to get up hills, but Steinbauer P-Box arrived yesterday:D, so hoping that's that problem solved...

Hmmm, had trol at auto electrics today - he plugged in his diagnostics machine to check it and it was showing a fault on the ECU. (wife did mention that the engine warning light came on the other day, but cleared when she stopped the car, reset the immobiliser and started again).

He's reset it and wants me to take it back in a couple of days to see if the fault has come back. If so, thinks the ECU may be on its way out...

Anybody got any idea what a replacement ECU costs? Best place to get one?

Am waiting to fit the steinbauer till ECU is given clean bill of health.

fault back on ECU - now I've got to take it to the garage around the corner to be fixed, they can't give me a quote till they've put it on their diagnostics machine, so got to take it back into 'ull tomorrow. Bit perplexed about this as took it to an auto electrical specialist - I would have thought that a bit of ECU diagnostics would have been up their street, but no, back we go to the spanner monkeys round the corner. sorry - rant over...

will keep you posted

did I say:

he thinks the glow plugs are being inhibited by the ECU fault...

anybody come across that before?

the ECU fault is showing as ECM code 10. Apparently the only thing it shows in his manual is to check some wiring for faults, which he's going to do next week - otherwise it's looking like a new ECU

So, after a day being checked out at the garage, they can't find a fault, but think that it's possibly an intermittent fault on the wiring somewhere. Unless the wire is actually shorting when they test, it's going to be very difficult to find the fault. They've suggested keep driving it to see if the fault gets worse - alternatively I could take it to "Japtech" in Hull who have better diagnostic facilities and may be able to further interrogate the ECU to help find the fault. As there doesn't appear to be any impact to performance, I'll persevere at the moment.

Anybody got any experience of Japtech?

how did you get on with this?

my check light comes and goes at will, sometimes dont see it for weeks then it can be every journey. i know that swithcing off at end of journey clears its and theres no loss of performance for rest of journey other than the part of a second freeze of performance which is cleared if necessary by easing of pedal then carrying on, often doesnt even take this and truck keeps surging on merrily.

guess could pluck up courage and look at pedal, after that it will be a plug in session with an independent with a nissan computor, could really do without a blank cheque moment!
