My interior lamp was playing up, the one just behind the front seats, not always turning on, and the switch had become intermittent.
I decided to have a look at it today, so I unscrewed it from the roof, and struggled to unplug it, it was like the plug had melted!!! When I finally got it out, I discovered in many places it looked like it was made out of honeycomb, the plastic had melted and turned brittle. There was also a crack right where the plug was, which meant one of the power bars was able to move, resulting in it moving away from the switch contact.
I checked the bulb, and it was 10w, but I guess in the past, someone must have put something in that was bigger. First idea was to try and get a replacement, but then I thought, it is just the internals that are damaged, and I already have a nice LED light in the rear, I could turn it into a matching LED lamp.
Our local "cheap" shop sells 60 LED, 3.2w, 12v MU16 type bulbs, so I massacred one of those, and after a bit of chopping of the interior light, some soldering, heat shrink tubing, and plenty of Silicon sealant to hold stuff in place, I now now have a really bright LED roof light that matches the one I fitted to the boot area.
