After owning my current terrano for just over four years i thought it was about time I fixed the interior light in the boot.
Picked up a second hand unit, got a new bulb and set about fitting it.
Pulled the fuse while I connected it up and fitted the bulb.
Replaced the fuse, opened the door and all was good.
Closed the door and waited and waited and waited but it wouldn't turn off.
Checked the main light switch and was set to the right position but it still won't turn off when the door is closed and locked.
Disconnected the rear unit thinking this was at fault but now the interior light in the front won't turn off.
Any idea's of what can be causing this???

Hi,

I too have this problem, none of the interior lights turned off, checked wiring and that doors were actually pressing in switches properly, even changed door switches for a known good one. In the end I put it down to a faulty timer unit and added to my list of small jobs to do. Think the timer unit above the fuses controls them from what I read but took it no further.
The below thread was useful.

Just got me stumped as the one in the front has always worked fine until I connected up the rear one.
Maybe I've blown the timer unit:nenau

Mine stays on until the main light goes out, closing tailgate doesn't turn the boot light off. What happens when you lock the doors with the fob? That should turn it off.
Failing that tape the factory wiring up and fit your own wiring instead.

Nothing happens Jim.from the moment I put the fuse back in it stays on constantly.

have you trapped the wire? the lights work by switching to ground, so if the negative at the bulb gets trapped anywhere, it won't blow the fuse, but will keep the lights on. The wires run under the plastic cover, between it and the metal, over the door, and can get nicked by the metal retaining clips..

There is also second timer that if the light stays on for a long time (not timed it, but it must be an hour or so), when you leave the door open, it will turn them off anyway.

As LF said the interior light is on a pretty long time out.
They will only switch of immediately if you either lock or start the vehicle.

Tried starting the engine and it still stays on constantly.
