Okay, so my dash is fairly standard for a MK1 with the addition of an elderly JVC radio/CD that jumps whenever there is the slightest pothole :D

Looking to pimp it up a bit but being a tight ar$e I don't want to spend load either! I've seen a few head units from dubious looking companies that include a wee tft display for playing DVD/AVI's and switching to rear view camera when you hit reverse. Seem to mostly be cheap eastern white box stuff with makes like Denver, Majestic, Beat Audio (not Beats Audio!) so I'm understandable wary.

These single din devices also have video in so I could later on build up a Raspberry Pi for GPS maybe, but then I might be better fitting an extra 5" TFT screen somewhere instead?

Those that have fitted this sort of electronic junkie happiness, where have you mounted the screens etc.? I would like it all to be neat in the end (anyone who's seen my truck would laugh at that!) so trying to avoid blocking access to vents and switches and too many extra cables running about.

Come on, show off your interior bling! :clap

Just get a good (cheap) head unit with usb in. Then a small tablet like Nexus 7
Run all your mapping and video work on the tablet . Music in via usb and bob's your fanny's aunt :thumb2

Aye, I was wondering that, but where do you fit an Android tablet in the dash so it looks neat? Ideal would be to lose the ashtray and have a mini head unit there and then fit a nice pop out style holder for a tablet where the radio should be.

Photo's, words are not enough!!

One of the cheapy combo boxes I'd looked at - like the specs, not sure of the dodgy brand! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beat-575-...-In-SD-4-2-TFT-Screen-RDS-Tuner-/330755847429

Didnt get that far on my T2 but screen size is all when mapping off road. 150 quid will get you a new nexus , then an ebay HU say 30 quid. Then it'll be spanners and drawer system off a trendy new car I guess.
I'd put the tablet on a holder when you go out and take it with you when not in the car :thumb2

Sadly my T2 spends far more time on road as daily commuter and often the family car for long trips these days as the kids prefer it (at least they have taste! :clap) so off road requirements are less important.:(

I should add, before Ryan chips in, I'm not interested in stereo kit making my ears bleed, I'm an old duffer that likes radio mostly with a bit of moosic if the signal's bad, so no sub woofers and that sort of nonsense! I may need to replace the four speakers in the doors as I think they may be dodgy anyway, SO interested in something that's a simple like for like swap for small beer that could improve the sound slightly I suppose.

LED lights:D thats what mineting under the dash so the Footwells will light up red when the door is opened, also good radio, you could get a wood radio/vent surround, :thumb2

I've also got a turbo boost gauge and a volt meter in that little hole behind the gear leavers

I've got loads of LED lights, in the dash, and on the roof...

Am I the only one that hates that fake wood effect? when we were looking for our T2, I wanted one without it.

That hole behind the gear lever is essential as is, it's where the "Car Sweets" live, so I can't use that for anything else, but I did find the Lidl's inside/outside temp gauge fits perfectly in the angle on lop of that cubby hole, where it joins the main dash, and my extra LED's light it up a dream

I took my Ashtray out, made up a blanking plate and fitted 3 extra sockets in there, but do not think you could put a radio in there as there is not enough depth, the heater is behind there.

I did do a post asking if anyone knew of a pod that would sit on top of the dash to give some extra space for dials, or a touch screen, but still not found one.

What, you mean like this?

Wondered about carving out the lighter and ashtray, but haven't looked at the depth. Anyone not working with time on their hands (Ryan :D) got time to go and measure up?

Sorry, I'm currently 28 miles away from my truck lol, but I'll measure when I get home, you wanting to remove the lighter and ash that all together?

Sound like me dad, i dont care what speakers their are as long as I hear Terry wogan that's all that matter, :lol

If you need new speakers, they are 4x6 inch in the doors, all 4 are the same, you can get them cheap enough off eBay:thumb2

Yes, I'm still to mount a pod up their I have modded the suround of a inclinometer/compas from a Mitsubishi shogun, fits like a dream, I'm fitting an outside temp display in it and somthing else....need to think what, possibly TPS

I've always wanted to mount a side-scrolling green LED light bar in the style of KITT in the 'surplus' bonnet vent as mine's a petrol T2.

No time, no tech, no money, another for the lottery win list. :thumbs

They are very cheap on ebay and only take a few mins to install. :thumbs
