look here NISSAN 300ZX TWIN TURBO FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER GTO

idea is to front mount this and run the air con through the other hoses

i hoped it would cool the air flow
and with the heat from the hot air against the cold aircon air cause condensation and extra cooling


your thoughts

sounds like a paracetamol job to me, i'll sleep on it, im looking at doing similar to my escort turbo, adz gave me some idea's, sounds promising ans might just work, :rolleyes::doh

Having an intercooler that is bigger than standard will result in serious turbo lag & possible overheating

On a petrol motor you have the power & air flow but not on a diesel :(
When it comes to intercoolers,bigger isn't always better

Its all to do with the size of the bore & core

Would the gain in power out weigh the loss of power due to running the air con? :nenau

thats the point, we all know it will make it colder and run faster but would it be worth it.

now i have a td and a tdi and the difference between the 2 in my opinion is staggering even with the tdi running on 35's adz's td cant touch it or petes tdi for that matter

but if a top mount intercooler does that. what would a front mount thats cold full time do. i mean if it had that kind of jump again id be doing it today!

ok ive not had many cars with air con, but the ones i have had have not gone slower when i turn the air con on, top end is no slower either

i can see the argument for it using more fuel . but what are we talking here ?

now this is my thought and i welcome your input cos this is the bit i cant get my head round
if you had air con (i dont on the red one) ive looked at them and from what i can see they run off a belt that is continuously turning with the engine whether its turned on or not. surelly that is the only point it effects the engine by causing drag . but its connected full time ? so how will it go slower?
so ok it has power to it too but how much is that what causes the loss of power

im going to do a rad fan conversion soon , now im told that will give me more power, cos it will have less drag on the engine. " now i can see that" but then if as above running the fan by electric. will i get the the same problem as the loss of power using air con

see im all confused on this argument on air con making you loose power. i just dont see the argument

with the aircon off the compressor is on over-run if you like, but when you switch air-con on it engages the compressor and you can hear the drag on the engine, i dont know about how much power is lost. an electric fan will have no effect on engine as its power is from the battery, so any loss in power will be by the alternater, which is cutting in and out. :doh i think thats right. bloody head ache now
 
Aye Tezzers right,

The aircon compressor has a small electroc magnetic clutch on the front so it enganes ad disengages as is needed. The alternator turns all the time and works all the time. With the T2 the viscous fan coupling means the fan isn't driven when it isn't needed so theres little (there is some still) engine drag from it. With the elecric fan the alternator and electric motor are less efficient than a direct drive fan so theres more loss there too. Probably nothing in it.

Back in the days of the Mk1 and Mk2 escort fiitting an electric fan did release a couple of BHP as the fan was premanently hard driven off the water pump, but even back then ford started to phase in viscous couplings.
 
I know for a fact that a tractor air con, that is more or less the same system as the T2 will consume around 10hp, and have proven this when on a dyno test. Thats why the ecu switches the aircon off when your foot is fully down on the throttle on a tdi
