you know the redex injector treatment? well, it says add to full tank, but i dont want to, i want to add it to about 10 litres, is it safe to just chuck in the whole bottle?

i ont use redex but forte injector cleaner, i usualy fill the fuel filter with it at service time and run the car up with it in neat for a few seconds then let it sit in the injectors for a minute or two. It is generaly accepted that it does no harm, so in my opinion. Bang the whole bottle in

might get a big cloud of crap outta the exhaust from all the poo inside the injectors/ fuel system tho , but that will clear .... incidently i use the blue red ex fuel system cleaner ( does 2 tank fulls ) , i put it in every 2 or 3 fill ups

earlier threads have mentioned the fact that .......... some makes ..... suggest in their manual to, periodically at TWO gallons of PETROL TO EACH DIESEL fill-up ,to have the same effect .... think on !

if your worried see how many ltrs it treats then portion it out; but as every one has said it shouldnt do any harm to put a bit too much in happy smokin;

in my T2 2.7 tdi manual is suggests adding up to 30% kerosene (is that parafin in english?) to the fuel tank!

for some time now I have been adding 300ml of high quality 2 stroke oil to a full tank, I understand it keeps the engine clean and lubricated. I would like to run 50/50 vegy oil but as I have a zexal pump I think it may cause problems,or so I am told. regards bri

Just thought I would put my bit in here, as an ex diesel engineer, as far as I am concerned you are all waisting your money, carbon build up is the problem with injectors (aside from water in the fuel,wear etc), and if you can find a chemical that will dissolve carbon then I would like to know about it, as it does not exist as far as I am aware, just my thoughts, Rick

Pish and tosh - everyone knows it dissolves readily in molten iron, which I regularly flush my injectors with....:doh

Just wake it in :thumbs dont think it will hurt as its got a long way to travel plus it wont be sitting in the fillter or injectors :thumbs

Remember the old days when we had carburettors, distributers etc....
the trick to give you a bit more compression in the cylinders was to put a drop of redex straight into the cylinders through the spark plug holes.
Dont know if it ever done any good but boy did you leave some smoke screen behind you for a couple of miles.:lol

another thing people used to do in the 'good old days' was to take the air filter out and while reving th engine hard pour a capfull of brake fluid into the intake!

It looked like it worked, but maybe the smoke was just burning brake fluid?

I knew respected plumbers that advocated washing up liquid in the header tank as a central heating additive (watch your rads rust away), likewise I knew brick layers who used washing up liquid as a mortar plasticiser ( watch your pointing disintigrate) petrol in your diesel (watch your pump wear) parafin in your diesel max 5 ltrs per tank full only as a wax preventer in very cold weather, but still bad for the pump, kills derv lube qualities, re vegi oils pumps themselves are fine vegi is a good lubricator it is the neoprene or other composition o rings and seals that go bad, some pumps survive others fail, and it is not just a case of saying Bosch are OK but CAV/Lucas are not as it depends on when and where they were made, Bosch pump made in this country may have joe bloggs seals, same thing made in germany may have fred smith seals, it is a lottery, take your chance, me I have an old Xzantia for a run around and will stick anything that burns in it but I have spare pumps and injectors so not bothered, I also have a 1975 Lister SR2 runs well on old engine oil just have to filter it first after standing for a few weeks, Rick

I used to run a summer camp for UK students in an orphanage in Romania. The locals used to run the cars on red diesel mixed with old sump oil and a few gallons of petrol mixed in for good measure.


Our Merc mini bus would struggle to get up to 50 mph when coming home and the Merc dealer who serviced it (for free) had one of our fuel filters on his wall as it was the worst he had ever seen.
