Hi Guys,

I have had a strange incident with my R20 3 ltr 2001 machine today......the idle speed seems to have moved from its normal approx 800 rpm up to 1200/1300 rpm. I thought I noticed it settling back, but no....it gently creeps back up to this new idle speed.

I also have in this last few days, got an intermittent engine block symbol that shows now and again....then dissappears again.

As I am in the wilds of France, and do not have ready access to a diagnostic computer, can any kind person out there give me some useful advice please.....

many thanks in advance

Hmm... fault with the high idle speed switch? (first make sure it's not been accidentally switched on!)

I have a replacement Vectra whilst my Trol is in sickbay,it has similar symptons due to an oil leak, top it up and fine but when it's lost about a litre of oil this starts to occur, top it up and seems fine.I know the last owner was a bullshitter as I've found with the other minor probs so he didn't mention this!I have taken out one sensor and checked it out, cleaned out some of the breather pipes and slightly better but maybe your prob could be similar?By the way I'm down near Bergerac where are you?

On my 1995 Mav, I have a hand throttle, which gives a few revs more, well a lot more.

If yours has one, then check it.:nenau

Hi guys, thanks, the oil levels are stable and ok with no loss. Where do I find the high speed idle switch? I don`t think my model has a hand throttle (memories of an old L/R), I will check out any pipes on the inlet side.
CliveG, I am between Thiviers and Nontron.
Again thanks guys

3.0 Terrano could be different but on the 3.0 Trol there's a switch to the right of the steering wheel, press it and it puts your idle speed up to around 1200rpm - it's for heating the engine up quicker if you're trying to defrost from cold :thumb2
