Thought I'd try and do battle with image links again . Just why cant they be stored chronologically ??:(
On my FarmFind I didn't want all the weight and cost of a big old steel winch bumper, so decided to fit my winch inside :D
We're lucky to have a new machinist set up right next door to my son's unit ;)
I got him to make me a stainless "dognut" fairlead.

It's machined to fit 40mm exhaust pipe seen here attched.
That's then mounted to the stock Nissan sub bumper framework. It's pretty sound and so I was happy to weld onto it.

Then an easier task of trimming the plastic to suit the fairlead.

The stainless exhaust part then fits nicely ontop of the n/s chassis rail after a little persuasion on the brake pipe. Hole cutter through the floor and I'm in :)

Then an eye up and loose positioning for the rope line and winch .

I've cut a bit of 40mm box to mount the winch on due to the slope on the floor at this point.

Underneath the winch is a big bit of folded steel going across the truck to each chassis rail and welded on .

Wiring all to my second battery which is behind the drivers seat and on a split charge relay.

Also I found an isolation switch in my box of bits , so fitted that too. I've also fitted a couple of LEDs to the winch so I can see the line in the dark
There will eventually be a full flat floor over all this lot :naughty
First few wind ons here, not loaded

Since these pics I've done full load tests and it self feeds a treat :D

Are you sure about the full load spooling, I cannot see it working!! Rick

I read about a certain crucial angle between fairlead and winch drum. I forget the angle name , but below 7.5 degrees arc the drum should self feed.

MMM I do not think so, test at constant load is one thing, in reality on the job it is not like that, Rick

I love the work Pete and it looks like a cracking idea if you can spare the space but I have to agree with Rick on this :nenau

Add some water and some silty mud into the equation and I reckon that might give you some grief, willing to be proven wrong though

I took a look at the video you posted and it looked like when it was spooling in, it was barely dropping into the correct position by luck more than judgment when the rope was "slipping" off the spooled rope on the drum, you can just about make it out in the video as it almost "jumps" down.

loads of winch challenge trucks and military offroad lorries have similar systems so can't see why it won't work. I guess time will tell, Good to try something a bit different.

Hell yeah :guitarist:

About time we saw some modding action.

It's a dying trade on here these days

Mate I've done loads on the FARMFIND but it's such a chore to manage the bloody image site 😑

IMGBB is easy peasy these days, you no longer have to re-size your pics before uploading as they now offer a "BBCode Medium Linked" option

The only annoyance I have with it is depending on how you selected your pictures when uploading, due to the filename randomisation that the site uses, it knocks your pics out of chronological order which can be a pain.

Taking care to upload them in the order you took them will ensure that if you hit "Oldest" on the top tab under the album, you will get your pics in the order you want them :naughty

I'll try again on the lappy later but yes it's the chronological randomness that dies my head in 😡

Oh ye of little faith 😜
I'll find an hill and try and get stuck 🤣
As for mud, sand dirt n shite, I've underseal the floor 💪😘
