Had a new battery a few weeks ago because Mav was not starting in the cold!
Before I got the new battery I was jumping the Mav of "The Dragons" Fiesta and it started easily, hence the change of battery.
However, just went out to use the Mav and it turned over a few times but wouldn't fire up!
Tried again and battery died!
Out with the Jump Leads and the Fiesta, tried again and .................Nothing!
Absolutely Fanny Adams!!!!!!
Took jumper leads off, turned key and lights on dash go off!
Checked all the fuses...nowt wrong there!
Before I put ne battery on, I made sure ALL the terminals were spotlessly clean, including all earth terminals.
So WTF is going on? Any idea's folks??????

the terminals can brake and look like they r fine so check round there

After checking the terminals etc, and charging the battery, take the battery and get it checked, as it may be faulty.

Quite a few years back I got a new battery for my local autofactors, and it died with in a month, took it back, and got a replacement, and it did the same after about 3 weeks. I thought that they would never believe that it was not my car, but when I phoned them, they had had a bad batch, and had loads returned. The next one was fine.

It wasn't a VARTA by any chance?

battery could possibly be holding the right voltage but no amps, that'll be a faulty battery

FOUND IT!

Twas the Positive cable broken!
Half an inch from the teminal under the insulation, it looked like it's been hanging on by a thread "Literally"!
Cable is at least 15mm thick and looks like it's been cut! but for about ten strands which are stretched out and obviously gave up the strain this morning!
So, now I'm after a new lug capable of taking this 15mm Cable, any ideas?

Yes... a clap...:clap:clap:clap:clap:lol

Halfrauds do a variety of battery clamps that can go straight onto the end of the cable, so no need for the lug, if you want to do it that way.

Battery replacement under warrenty

Well yesterday the old girl strained when I started her, the Yuassa type 334 battery was just over 2 years old.

So I managed to locate the receipt in my Mav file and... a quick look on the internet and mine had a 3 year warrenty.

Just been to the battery place, he took a voltage measurement, said it was fine, so I started the technical bit, of...

Well it has been run and the open circuit voltage is bound to be over 13 Volts, it is the Cold Cranking amps that are the issue, you need to do a load test proportional to the Amp hour rating and the Cold Cranking amps specification.:doh what:doh...

He went inside, came out with another meter, set this to the CCA rating of the battery, that came back with a CCA of 550 CCA, he scratched his head, then went in for the old fashioned big bertha of load testers, and held it on for 20 seconds, that showed 9 volts on the meter, which I thought wasn't that bad really, but not knowing the current, this was rather meaningless.

Anyway,

no questions, he said I'll get you a new one, FOC, can you drop the old one off when you are ready...

Wow Success...
I never thought I would win this one...:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

:clap:clap:clap:clap

It can be done...

100% Success rate on getting a free replacement battery under warranty.:thumbs

Note: Survey based on a sample of one battery...:augie:augie
Well that's how surveys are conducted isn't it.:augie

best regards,
Rustic

Well done.... :clap:clap

To be fair the only time I have ever had one fail in guarantee, they changed it for me, with no problems.. Mind you, it was made easier by the fact that within 10 mins of stopping the car, the voltage dropped to 8 volts, difficult to argue really.

I think you are right about the surveys, you have hit on a pet hate of mine, when they put the small print at the bottom of adverts, normally white writing on a very light background, that gives the figures... one, I can't remember which now, only surveyed something like 90 people, and 89, all agreed, the fact that all 90 were in the factory, and the odd one has now left, never gets mentioned... What is it?, something like, there are lies, politics, and then worse still, statistics...:lol
